A Valley Treasure for the Arts, Selma Arts Center’s 2020 Season

Selma Arts Center is quickly becoming the premier theatre in the Valley, and in their quest to build a fantastic 2020 season, they’ve created a dazzling lineup of hilarious, heartfelt, and magical shows that will bring you back again and again. From the Harry Potter-themed straight play Puffs to the culturally impactful musical Zoot Suit, Selma has chosen a beautiful variety of stories to tell next year. I sat down with Director Nicolette C. Andersen to talk about the new season and how Selma will evolve in the years to come.

Hair Receivers: A Collectible Curiosity

One of the most curious items to be found on a Victorian lady’s dressing table was a hair receiver. This was a small bowl with a hole in the lid. It was often part of a dressing table set, with a matching powder box. And why you ask, would anyone need a hair receiver? Well, some kind of receptacle was needed to collect and save the hair that accumulated in a lady’s brush or comb after the required daily 100 strokes.

The gold medal for all-around wonderful kitty could easily go to darling Chicken Little! This cutiepie never misses an opportunity to hoot it up with her friends, explore any nook or cranny, and make it her mission to check out whatever happens to be going on. Chicken Little came along way after suffering a toe injury calling for immediate amputation. She's all better now and you can't even notice she's missing a rear toe. What an adorable combination she is of fun-loving spirit and sweet, deep affection, a girl who will easily capture hearts in a forever family that cherishes her.
