This past weekend the first of several Valley Premieres of Tony Award winning musicals coming to the area this summer hit the Fresno Memorial Auditorium Stage. Spring Awakening, presented by The Underground @ CMT, opened to enthusiastic crowds and some local criticism for its content.

If you have ever swallowed your pride and belted out a song at a local bar, chances are you were performing with Joe Da Rosa aka “Big Poppa” and his crew at New Image Entertainment. New Image hosts karaoke at numerous Valley locations and has made many bars the place to be. I interviewed Joe about his entertainment company and learned why New Image is not your run of the mill karaoke business. For over ten years they have become the company of choice for local singing enthusiasts. Due in large part to their enormous selection of songs, from show tunes to rap, and each of the karaoke jockey’s willingness to cut loose and have fun with their patrons.
No one is quite sure of the origin and no one owns the word, but a “hashtag” is hash mark (#) followed by a word used as a type of bookmark in social media, most notably Twitter. It facilitates cross pollination and collaboration of ideas by creating groupings and words. It creates space in cyberspace where ideas can grow. It is a new word in a world of new words, concepts, and constant change.
