An odds-defying lottery win allowed Kari Stuart to escape her stagnated life as a waitress and move back to her hometown in the Catskills, where she found her purpose in buying a pet rescue animal sanctuary. Kari and her Serenity Sanctuary are in the middle of celebrating Oktoberfest when she has an unexpected, and unpleasant, confrontation with her ex-husband.
All it took was the impulsive – and desperate – purchase of a lottery ticket for waitress Kari Stuart to be able to turn her life around and find a new purpose. That came when she found a stray kitten, which in turn inspired Kari to purchase a run-down animal shelter and renovate it into a much-needed pet rescue shelter. That doesn’t mean that Serenity Sanctuary still doesn’t need financial support, though, which is why Kari let herself be talked into helping her friend Suz Holden at the Tri-County Kennel Dog show.
Maybe buying a pet shelter – spur of the moment, sight unseen - wasn’t the best idea. But Kari Stuart had recently gotten out of a bad marriage, was about to turn thirty, and oh yes, had just won a five-million-dollar lottery. At a loss what to do next in her life, it took finding a stray kitten and discovering that all of the local pet shelters were overflowing their capacities to propel her into to making such an impulsive decision.
