As a fifth-year graduate student and doctoral candidate in the Department of English at an East Coast Ivy League college, Dulcie Schwartz feels the stress to revise and publish her paper on an anonymously authored gothic novel. Dulcie’s thesis advisor thought he was being sensitive when he suggested a seminar on time-management skills, but her friends go the other route and say she needs an escape to take her mind off her work. Their solution is a disco-themed interpretation of Ovid’s Metamorphosis performed by the University Repertory Theatre.

Dulcie's thesis advisor, Martin Thorpe, never stable at the best of times, is otherwise occupied with being the interim chair and completely fearful of the state of his position within the university. Dulcie is in the final stages of her dissertation concerning the identity of the author of an under-appreciated gothic novel, as well as her discovery of another unpublished piece by the mysterious author.

Harvard Square on a late November night would not have seemed so ominously spooky had Harvard graduate student Dulcie Schwartz not been spending her evenings transcribing the haunting ghost story of a handwritten manuscript, possibly written by the author central to Dulcie’s doctoral thesis. However, the need to grade the student papers that she had forgotten in her office sends her back to the campus building and has her braving the lonely night and jumping at the sound that seems all to reminiscent of a wolf’s howl.

Her latest client has hired her to retrain Randolph Jones, a foul-mouthed parrot whose owner just passed away in the LiveWell retirement complex.
