The Cat House on the Kings: The Open House is Almost Here!

by Jackie Dale

The Open House is next weekend and the excitement is building. We are, however, a bit short on volunteers for setting up, breaking down, and lots of stuff in between. Please consider donating the gift of time. There are two shifts available to choose from for the 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. event. We all know that many hands makes light work so please shoot Tammy Barker an email right now. In the subject line write “I Want to Volunteer.” Email: tammy@cathouseonthekings[dot]com

Cat House on the Kings: Open House, Calendar, Yoga With Cats, & What Else, But Kittens?

by Jackie Dale

So, I have returned from my two month summer hiatus. I generally only take the one month, with Harvie graciously filling in for me. However, this year brought many circumstances that were unyielding and very demanding. Well, of course, the onslaught of kittens was non-stop. Then in mid-July, I blew out my knee while simultaneously pulling the hamstring in my other leg. I suffered a torn ACL, a torn meniscus, and a fractured knee cap. Understandably, I was in a lot of pain and not too mobile. Fortunately my daughter was able to step in and help out with the kittens.

Cat House On the Kings: Fallen Trees, Ring, Holly, & Fall Open House

We’ve been seeing green at The Cat House on the Kings this summer! Thanks to the extra rain that we received this winter and spring, we have more greenery than we’ve seen in quite a few years. But sometimes the greenery doesn’t stay where it belongs. Early one August morning, our staff came to work before dawn only to discover that the driveway to The Cat House was completely blocked by a huge fallen tree.

When my best friend Kayla and I hang out, it’s usually because one of us has texted the other saying, “Hey, want to go get breakfast?” For her, it’s usually pancakes with a side of eggs and sausage while for me it’s french toast or a waffle with bananas and peanut butter—don’t judge me okay! We both have to have coffee with lots of Splenda.

The Cat House on the Kings will be holding an online fundraiser from June 26 through July 8 because the unbelievable onslaught of kittens is quickly draining the coffers. Every year you think it will get better because The Cat House has fixed so many cats. But in fact, 2017 has been one of the worst years on record. An astounding number of kittens have come through the door, and people call every single day with kitten problems.

The Open House is next weekend, so I hope you are all set to be there. The staff is working furiously to ready the grounds. Next week the volunteers will begin arriving, and the pace gets frantic as the big day approaches. Don’t forget to buy raffle tickets for the spectacular quilt. We are also raffling off a gorgeous donated ring appraised at $1.300! The 18k white gold ring (size 7) is a large oval citrine surrounded by 40 round amethysts.

The Open House is fast approaching and will be here before you know it. Please, please, please think of something you could donate to our silent auction. The auction is the big money maker for The Cat House and we really need your donations. With the number of abandoned, rescued, and injured animals coming in, we need your help more than ever. I challenge everyone to find something they can donate to our auction.

Cat House on the Kings: Abandoned Cats, 25th Anniversary Open House, 28 days to Catch 1 Cat & Natural Rodent Control

by Jackie Dale

On a cold rainy morning staff members arriving at work shortly before dawn discovered fourteen plastic tubs, each one containing a cat, including one young mother and two tiny newborns. Abandoning animals is a crime, but people often choose to dump cats instead of getting help with low-cost spay and neuter options. We are now facing a lot of unplanned expenses to provide food, shelter, vaccinations, and medical care.
