Another year is coming to a close and the main reviewers of KRL have been asked to pick their top 5 books of 2014, but most of us couldn't keep it to 5! The first book in Barb Hendee’s Mist-Torn Witches series introduced the Fawe sisters, Céline and Amelie. Céline, an apothecary who was trained in herbal lore by her Gypsy mother, could touch a hand and see the future; Amelie’s touch revealed the past. Together, they helped Prince Anton stop the plans of his brother to succeed their father as Prince of the land.
There are two books in Barb & J. C. Hendee’s twelfth Noble Dead horror-tinged fantasy A Wind in the Night, and they happen at the same time. One book involves a wild-haired sage named Wynn going to a remote castle with a vampire she really likes, an assassin-elf who doesn’t “assas” any more (and the she-sage used to really like him…but she is confused by changes in his character), a wolf-dog (who is Fay on the inside), and a “sageling” who doesn’t want to go back to the castle where he grew up.
KRL reviewed a lot of really good and great books in 2013, but we decided to give our best shot at choosing our top 5 of the year--some of us cheated a little, but here are our choices! And if you are an author who is not on the list, take heart--like I said, they were all good books!
