Santa Cruz has many spots that, because of their beauty and very low (or no) cost, are favorites among the locals. Most of these can be visited for free or for a slight fee if you choose to park in the parking lot. Go for an hour or two, or bring a picnic and hang out longer-and they’re all great for photo ops. (And they’re family friendly if you’ve got kids in tow).

If you’re headed over to the California coast anywhere near Santa Cruz, I highly recommend making a stop in Aptos for some Christmas fun. Plaid Tidings is on stage at Cabrillo Stage and it’s the most Christmas fun you’ll find anywhere.

I attended a play called Scrooge, based on A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens on Sunday December 26, showing at Cabrillo Stage Theatre in Aptos, near Santa Cruz from December 17-30, 2010. The play is directed by Andrew Ceglio who was born in San Jose and now lives in Capitola.
