The Bourne Legacy: Movie Review

by Jesus Ibarra

The Bourne Legacy is the fourth entry into the Bourne film series starring Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz and aiming to continue the series without the titular Jason Bourne played by Matt Damon in the last three movies. I didn’t envy the makers of this film because they had to come up with a story that was compelling enough to tell without Matt Damon in the lead role, after a successful trilogy. That said, you didn’t have to watch the first three movies in the series because the first half of this movie, basically gives you the gist of what happened.

The Avengers: Movie Review

by Jesus Ibarra

Wow just wow. Those were the first words that I could utter after watching the midnight premiere of Marvel’s The Avengers directed by Joss Whedon. After two and a half hours of just being blown away with constant amazing scenes I was literally spent. The amount of comic book fanboy moments in this film was insane and they were all so amazingly well done.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins: Book Review–Not Just For Teens

by Joyce Brandon

I was slightly uncomfortable to admit to everyone I had read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. The idea that I was reading a “young adult” book shook my pride just a little but I soon overcame that insecurity when adult after adult told me how much they enjoyed the book. Yes, it is written for young adults and is; therefore, an easy read, but that doesn’t detract from the story. The plot is creative and the story hooked me right from the beginning.

In Time: Movie Review

by Lorie Lewis Ham

If you’re looking for a fun sci-fi action flick to go see I would recommend In Time starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried, which just opened this weekend.
In Time is set in a world where the currency is time. You only age to 25 and then you have one year on your time clock. Unless you can earn, steal or borrow more time you die when your clock runs out.

Real Steel: Movie Review

by Lorie Lewis Ham

If you’re looking for an action film you can take your family to, Real Steel may be the perfect choice. The fighting is mostly between robots, but it’s more like a life size video game than like the sentient robots fighting it out in Transformers.

Killer Elite: Movie Review

by Lorie Lewis Ham

Killer Elite is an action thriller based on a true story. Danny (Jason Statham) is a hired killer who decides it is time to get out of the business because he is tired of killing. He moves to Australia and is trying to build a normal life, when the life of his best friend and mentor Hunter (Robert De Niro) is threatened, forcing him back into the game.

Hanna: Movie Review

by Jesus Ibarra

Hanna, starring Saoirse Ronan, is a revenge film that surprisingly has many layers to it, mostly because of the superb acting from Saoirse as Hanna and the object of her revenge, Cate Blanchet’s CIA Agent Marissa Wiegler. The film also benefits from an awesome electronic score that sets the mood for the action when it ramps up, or when the film slows down its pace. The directing also gives the film a unique atmosphere that just draws you in sometimes, making the film fast paced when it needs to be and slows it down when it has to.

Battle: Los Angeles: Movie Review

by Lorie Lewis Ham

Taking the whole family to see this movie provided me with an interesting perspective that I normally don’t get when doing a review. My 18 year old daughter hated the movie and thought it was pointless, my 54 year old husband thought it was too loud and a waste of time, my 16 year old son loved it, and I (I won’t give you my age but let’s say I’m a few years younger than my husband lol) enjoyed it but didn’t think it was great.
