Cleaning Green-Windows

by Tess Mize

Hi, again! In my last post, I explained some of the reasons I like to try eco-friendly and non-toxic alternatives to conventional cleaning supplies. I also have a lot of messes to clean up, courtesy of my 18-month old lab mix named Trixie. Today’s project: windows! I know, windows are the absolute worst. I am right there with you. But they’re also one of the less subtle areas when they get dirty. Especially sliding glass doors. My grief, but do those things get dirty, dirty, dirty!

Winter’s Tale: Book Review

by Tess Mize

This review was inspired by a list of movies coming out in 2014 that are based on books. Having seen a few trailers for the movies on the list, I saw Winter’s Tale and thought, “That seems like a nice, romantic story–perfect to review in time for Valentine’s Day.” Based on the movie trailer, I expected an easy read, with sentimentality to rival any Nicholas Sparks books and a dash of fantasy. What I got was a 768-page mammoth of a novel by Mark Helprin that proved a very challenging, and at times frustrating, exercise of the mind.

I need techniques that get the job done fast, so I can do other things that don’t involve rubber gloves and suds.

Christmas at Kearney

by Tess Mize

The holiday season is a time for nostalgia. It’s the time of the year when people wax poetic about their childhood traditions, family gatherings and days gone by. A particularly popular source of nostalgia for this time of year is the Victorian Era, perhaps because our Victorian forebears are the ones who started many of the now traditional celebrations associated with Christmas.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever: Presented by the Enchanted Playhouse

by Tess Mize

“There are no small parts, only small actors!” Enchanted Playhouse’s current production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is full of “small” actors (most of the roles are children, after all), but there’s nothing small about the level of talent or dedication in this cast. The show, which opened on Friday and runs through December 8, is a delightful production that is sure to put you in the Christmas spirit.
