Local Actor Kp Phagnasay

by Mallory Moad

There was a time when, if a person wanted to pursue an acting career in film and television, moving to Los Angeles was a necessity. You had to be near the action and readily available for casting calls and auditions. But thanks to twenty-first century technology and, to a certain degree, the Covid 19 shutdown of 2020, a serious actor no longer has to relocate to La La Land in order to find employment. Just ask Kp Phagnasay, a successful working actor who makes his home in Fresno.

BritBox Streaming: Scottish Gems Shetland & Karen Pirie

by Kathleen Costa

BritBox is one of my “good” vices. It’s harmless. It’s healthy. It’s highly economical. For less than a cappuccino and a scone (monthly $6.99; special annual fee $69.99), I get endless hours of entertainment from which I can choose a sitcom, detective drama, mystery, documentary, and much more set in an urban community to the countryside and all over the Commonwealth.

AcornTV is the perfect remedy for boredom! Whether you need a belly-laugh, a pluck on your heartstrings, a cringeworthy nail-biter, or good triumphs over evil karma, AcornTV has what you need. For a reasonable membership fee (monthly $6.99, or special annual $69.99), I have access to a wide range of programs from those I can’t live without to those…I guess I can’t live without!

AcornTV Streaming: Iconic Pair in an Aussie Gem! Darby and Joan

by Kathleen Costa

AcornTV is a harmless vice I plan never to drop. On the cusp of the baby boomer era, I grew up with television enjoying reruns from the “Golden Age of Television” to new shows that are now classics. I was introduced early to many British productions like The Avengers, but those Brit sitcoms and dramas were few and far between…until now!

AcornTV Streaming: North & South Detective Duos The Brokenwood Mysteries/Murdoch Mysteries Movies

by Kathleen Costa

AcornTV is one of the best streaming options for Anglophiles, like me. For a reasonable monthly ($6.99) or special annual ($69.99) membership fee, I have access to a large, varied library, updated frequently, of sit-coms, dramas, detective dramas, movies, theater productions, documentaries, and foreign-language programs.

Detectives for Free on PBS: Grantchester & Endeavour

by Kathleen Costa

PBS, for me KVIE or KQED, is another way to get a dose of “ahhh” for my Anglophile thirst with Masterpiece Mystery. No membership fee required. No commercial breaks, barring the seasonal pledge break. Every summer the new seasons for Endeavour and Grantchester are aired, and to better adjust to the year wait, the previous season is rerun to remind fans of last year’s events and cliffhangers and allow newbies a chance to get up to speed.

AcornTV Streaming Murdoch Mysteries & Rebus

by Kathleen Costa

AcornTV is a favorite streaming service that does not disappoint with access to a vast library at a reasonable membership fee (monthly $6.99; annual special $59.99). I, personally, have enjoyed hours and hours of classic programming and every month new and returning comedies, dramas, and all the detective shows I can handle, like Murdoch Mysteries and Rebus. Having the freedom to watch anytime, anywhere, on any device, and as often as one wants is the biggest plus to the membership.

BritBox Streaming: Detective Duos Grace & Rebus

by Kathleen Costa

BritBox is a streaming service that completely quenches my Anglophile thirst. I had before relied on PBS stations or A&E network to see anything British, but it usually would be shows that had become iconic, popular, or were easy to purchase, and the idea of viewing the shows multiple times whenever I wanted was not an option. That was limiting. You only could watch it once, and if something took precedent, like fundraising, you would miss episodes.
