Developing and honing linguistic skills is a vital prerequisite to academic, professional, and personal success. Language allows us to express our deepest thoughts eloquently and advocate for what we want. While each global language has its importance, there is one that has made its mark as an international language and is widely spoken by millions globally.

The Player’s Encore is the second book in Joe Cosentino’s Player Piano Mystery series. In the first book, The Player, grade school music teacher Andre Beaufort discovers an old player piano in the basement of his building and has it brought up to his apartment. Fresh Brewed Murder is the first in a brand new series by Emmeline Duncan. When I saw that the main character owned a coffee cart in Portland, Oregon I knew this book was for me. I love coffee, and Oregon is one of my favorite places!

June is Pride month, but sadly, there are many places that still don’t acknowledge and recognize that fact. Former Selma, CA resident Lance Nelson decided that he wanted to make an effort to change that, starting with the area where he grew up. Lance was born and raised in Selma and attended Wilson Elementary School, Lincoln Middle School, and Selma High School. He graduated from Selma High School in 2006. Lance is currently attending Columbia University, majoring in human rights with an interest in equal access to education. His future goal is to work for a nonprofit, and perhaps one day, even the United Nations.

Board and card games have become more popular again over the last several years. People want to do things together with friends and family in real life, not just on the computer. Interestingly, a lot of people during the pandemic even started playing board and card games on Zoom as a way to feel like they were together with people they couldn’t see in person.
