Everyone knows the story of the three little pigs, right? A big bad wolf huffs and puffs and blows their house down–or is that the real story? This weekend at the Enchanted Playhouse in Visalia, they presented a very different version of the story told from the perspective of the “Big Bad” Wolf.

Written by Debbie Metzler, The Truest Story of the Three Little Pigs had more of a modern setting and the story was quite different from the one we all grew up with. It included cops, and CSI, and disguises, and a mystery, and even a lesson on bullying and judging “people.” As a writer, I found the new look at the story clever and fun. Of course the main reason to see a show like this is for the kids–it’s a lot of fun watching them enjoy the show–but it’s also nice when you can get something out of it yourself as an adult. That said, my seven-year-old niece loved it! It kept her attention the entire time and she thoroughly enjoyed every minute. She also had fun getting to meet the actors after the show, and she found it very cool that most of the actors in it were kids.

So if you are looking for something fun to take the kids to, head over to the Main Street Theater, 307 East Main St. in Visalia. You can call (559) 739-4600 to purchase tickets, or buy them on their website, or at the door. Tickets run from $5 to $7 so it’s also a very inexpensive night out with the kids, and snacks at intermission are only $1 each. It’s a great way to introduce them to theatre. Enchanted Playhouse shows were my kids first experience with theatre and they’ve continued a love of theatre ever since. The Truest Story of the 3 Little Pigs plays through May 7.
