The Reedley College football team is in serious trouble. I can’t think of any other way to say it. The Tigers (1-5) begin conference play this coming Saturday, and if last Saturday’s 28-0 loss to Diablo Valley College is any indication, it could be ugly.
I hate being negative. I am not a negative person. And I know the players and coaches are giving it their all. But it is what it is. The Tiger offense is as discombobulated as I have ever seen it. Saturday was the first game I can ever remember seeing in which the Tigers not only didn’t score, but didn’t even reach the red zone a single time.
Quarterback Devin Knudsen was constantly overwhelmed by the Diablo Valley defense. He rarely if ever had any time to find a receiver open. He was replaced in the second half by Trey Mitchell, and he didn’t fare any better. Both quarterbacks were slammed, stomped and mangled. The Tiger offensive line has been banged up with injuries and it really showed Saturday. Again, I want to emphasize that this is not a personal attack on anyone. Everyone is trying their hardest, but Saturday’s game was a debacle, and it was homecoming to boot. The only win the team had was Linebacker Derrick Riley being named Homecoming King.
The Tigers showed they can score points in their 44-41 loss to Monterey Peninsula two weeks ago. Hopefully, the offense will get straightened out for Saturday’s conference opener at Merced College at one p,m.
