Golfers call it “The Click”. It’s the moment when all the practice comes together and you suddenly realize your swing is perfect, and you can make the golf ball do anything you want. The Reedley College Tigers may very well have felt the football version of “The Click” Saturday night in Coalinga, when they played perhaps their finest game in the past three years, defeating West Hills College 42-24.
Quarterback Sean Stell backed up his great game against Merced with an equally dazzling performance against the Falcons, throwing for 392 years and five touchdowns. That makes almost 800 yards passing and eleven touchdown passes in the past two games for Stell.
His receivers benefited from Stell’s red hot throwing arm as well, especially Kendrick Peeples. Peeples had fifteen catches for 210 yards and a touchdown. Wideout Will Hanford also had a great game. He caught two touchdown passes and also had an interception on what had to be the play of the night. Hanford was lined up deep to receive a punt. The Falcons ran a fake, and when he realized there would be no kick, Hanford sprinted up to the line of scrimmage and caught a deflected pass from the punter.
All in all it was a great night for the Tigers in a place where they have found it difficult to win in the past. They’ve now won two in a row, and have a legitimate shot at the Golden Gate Conference title. They’ll play their penultimate conference game this Friday night against Laney College up in Oakland.
