Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno shares with us every other month about their rescue dogs.

Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno introduces Pepper, a gentle senior lady about 8 years old and 80 pounds, looking for her forever family. Although her age labels her as a “senior,” her foster family prefers to call her a “mature” adult dog with the energy and spunk of a dog half her age. Pepper has the vitality to take brisk walks of 3 to 5 miles daily, loves a good game of fetch, and relishes her swim time. Although she certainly has pep in her step, she doesn’t have that overwhelming puppy energy. Pepper also thrives on car rides and would love to accompany her family on adventures. The beach in Santa Cruz? Yes! A trip up to hike in the foothills? Definitely! An active family who enjoys being on the go could be a great match for this sweet and loving girl.

Pepper would do better as an only dog as she likes to love on her people all by herself. Companionship? Cuddles? Belly rubs? Pepper is your girl. She is not too fond of cats, so a cat-free home would be best.

As a typical Lab, Pepper loves food, chicken and rice being her favorite. She also loves treats (what Lab doesn’t?), takes them gently, and will happily strike a pose for a snack. This sophisticated lady is working on leash skills and socialization. Prior to her rescue, Pepper lived in a backyard, unable to practice those essential leash and socialization skills which many dogs learn as puppies. Continued training to refine those skills will make her daily walks even more enjoyable than they already are. Her recall during off leash walks in a fenced area is wonderful.

Pepper is in great health. She has no allergies or other known ailments that dogs may acquire as they age. Since she has been in rescue, Pepper has shed some pounds which has made her more spry and able to easily chase her ball, which she loves so much. A combination of proper diet and exercise has allowed her to regain her Lab shape.

The Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno just celebrated its 15th anniversary and, to date, has rescued over 3,000 dogs and has found them loving homes since 2010. So far, in 2025, there have been 205 dogs that have been placed in foster homes.
