Fannie at three and Farley at five were two beautiful Scotties that were living the good life. They lived with a couple who doted on them and even after the wife developed some health problems, her husband was able to walk and exercise them. Then the husband died rather suddenly and the wife was left with the difficult decision of what was best for Fannie and Farley.

Clearly the woman couldn’t handle the two young Scotties on her own, and she wasn’t even sure how long she could stay in her home. Fortunately, she did the right thing and contacted Scottie Rescue.
She already had a history with Greater NY/NJ Scottie Rescue because after the couple got Fannie as a pup, they turned to rescue to get a second Scottie. Eventually, they adopted Farley, and, though Farley’s adoption did not come through Greater NY/NJ Scottie Rescue, Erica from that rescue group kept in contact with the couple. In fact, when Farley developed a problem with one foot that his local vet couldn’t diagnose, Erica made arrangements for her vet to see Farley. This vet was able to diagnose Farley’s foot problem and successfully treat it. All was well.
Then, Erica got a call asking her to take Farley and Fannie into rescue and place them together where they could continue being loved and properly cared for. Arrangements were made for Farley and Fannie’s owner to keep them until Erica could place them in a new home. Healthy and young, Erica felt it would not be a difficult placement.
The two Scotties’ luck held and a couple who had previously adopted through Greater NY/NJ Scottie Rescue called looking for two Scotties. Erica arranged an introduction with the current owner and all went well. The new owners had some prior traveling plans and had to wait a month to take the two Scotties, but the commitment was made.
Today Fannie and Farley are preparing for their first Christmas in their new, forever home and the best part? The adopters maintain a relationship with the previous owner so she is able to get pictures and news of Fannie and Farley.

Thanks for this Christmas gift to us. To know that Fannie and Farley are still connected to their previous owner and living with new owners who love them….what a nice thing to share.
What a great story. I recently lost my beloved Scottie boy Devon. This is the first Christmas in 16 years I have not had a Scottie to love and spoil. I look on petfinder.com everyday just in case my Scottie is there. Merry Christmas Fannie & Farley so happy you have your forever family!!!

I had to give up my two rescues…LILI (Cairn/Irish terrier mix) and Charley… left tied up at the apartments where I live and no one wanted to take on a 10 mo Russell/Schnauzer cross who loved to tip trashcans and bolt out the door (was he looking for his previous ‘home’?) At this time last year I’d spent most of December in hospital with heart issues and then home a week and went back with pneumonia….. but a friend in my church who was a home health nurse, not with agency I was assigned to would stop by weekly just to see if they were doing it right… (LOL) and to stop to see LILI and Charley. Since she loved to stop at a ‘barkery’ near a client, she came armed with special goodies, so they were delighted to see Marilyn each time. She asked if I could help her find a bonded pair as they wanted two dogs…and she missed out on a pair from Col Potter, but then, a few months later, I had to realize that walking a pair of energetic terriers was going to be a bit more than I would handle in the coming year(s) so it came to me and I offered her my two…. she said yes instantly… but like the Scotties, we had to wait a little over a month as she and her hubby had 6 week trip to England/Scotland planned to see relatives as she’s from Newcastle-on-Tyne… and many of them are quite elderly so the trip shouldn’t be put off. In the meantime she bought them new harnesses, leashes, bed and gave them t-shirts to sleep with…. the kids to the beds and scents straight off…. not what I’d thought they would as they always slept on my bed, but her husband is a ‘big’ guy..
They had several play times over there before they ‘moved’. When the day came… the snots looked at me…’oh, you’re not going? ok.’ and drove off without a glance backwards.
Now that my daughter is with me, we have HER Scottie, Bodie and we get over to Marilyn and Randy’s house 2-3 times a month….they live about 1.25 miles from me… so all is good… they don’t even try to leave with me (that hurt a bit the first time but now I know that they really belong with Marilyn and Randy…. and Charley is so proud to have a MAN to claim….and the furkids even have grandkids to play with sometimes… good all around. So even known placements can work out….
PS… and yes, Erica IS a saint and miracle worker. I met her when she helped me with a rescue of a Scottie who was going to be put down by order of a town council for nipping kids… 13 counts but his owner had cancer and wouldn’t/couldn’t walk him so she just let him out to do his ‘business’ and he chased kids on bikes. Yes, he was rescued and was a foster flunk.
Funny thing…. when I had cancer I had 5 of my own pack and then 3-5 more fosters at a time and NONE of them ever got out….1 did bite but it turned out he had a brain tumour.
