Here at Feral Paws Rescue we are known for saving cats from high kill shelters, and our stories are always focused on them. But we also have many other rescued animals.
Our story this month is about Piggy-Wiggly, a mini pig. When she came to our rescue, we made her a large area with a house and an area to play in the water like pigs love to do. We thought we were making her an amazing place to live.
But it didn’t take her long to becoming interested in the cats running free around our rescue. Piggy-Wiggly would stand at her fence area just watching the cats run and play in the area near her pen. After a while, she would snort and get so excited seeing them playing in the yard. My son took her out of her pen, and when she saw the cats chasing each other, she chased them, too, as if she were playing with them.
At the start the cats were unsure of her and would shy away when she snorted and sniffed them all over. As time went by, whenever we let Piggy-Wiggly out of her pen she would go searching for the kitties to play with. When she is out of her pen, she walks around with the cats and lies with them.
When the cats chase the chickens, she runs with them and chases the chickens, too. As she runs, she snorts, and it is one of the funniest sights. When the cats stop chasing the chickens suddenly, Piggy-Wiggly can’t stop as fast and runs over them.
Pigs love water, so she sits in the cats’ water bowl. She clearly doesn’t fit!
We decided to let Piggly-Wiggly be free with her buddies, the cats she has made friends with, because she thinks she is a cat. When we go out to check our mail, many kitties walk out to the gates with us, and Piggy-Wiggly walks along with them. She sleeps with them in their cat house on a cat bed that she can’t fit on with cats sleeping all around her. At mealtime, she comes running with the kitties and has her own bowl next to theirs. When we feed the rescue kitties in kennels, she and the cats go with us from kennel to kennel.
Piggy-Wiggly now loves to ride in the car with my son and his dog! She has become the most amazing mini pig. You never know what she is going to do next. I really think she sees herself as a cat, and all of us at the rescue have grown attached to her and love her love of cats.
