Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno shares with us every other month about their rescue dogs.

Did you know that just like fine wine, Labradors get even better with age? That’s right! Each year of aging makes Labradors more and more mellow, cuddly, and even smarter! Here at Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno (LRRF), we frequently receive requests from community members who would like to adopt puppies, and while puppies are amazing, we would like to encourage potential adopters not to overlook our seniors. There is a very special bond that develops between a senior dog and their adopter––the look of true love and appreciation you will see in your dog’s eyes every time they look at you will melt your heart and truly warm your soul. You are always deeply loved and cherished when you make a senior dog a member of your family. Speaking of special seniors, we are pleased to introduce you to our darling adoptable gal, Sadie!

Sadie

Sadie is a gorgeous 8-year-old Chocolate lady, and a beautiful example of a senior dog with so much love and companionship to give! She loves leisurely walks, swimming, and riding in the car listening to music with the windows down. She is laidback, fun-loving, and simply a joy to be around. Her leash manners are lovely, and she is happy just to be by your side! After her person was moved into a retirement home, other family members took her in, but left her in a small yard with little attention or exercise and a lot of food. Subsequently, our dear Sadie weighed in at an unhealthy 101 pounds when she came into LRRF. Now she is settled into her foster home and is getting regular exercise and healthy meals and she is down to 95 pounds. Sadie is looking for a forever family who can help her maintain her healthy diet and exercise regimen, and of course give her lots of love and cuddles. If you have a soft spot on your couch and a heart looking for a very special love, apply to make Sadie a member of your family at labrescuefresno.org!

Sadie is just one of the many dogs looking for their forever families. The past few years have been really tough, as shelters and rescues have been inundated with dogs of all ages in need of families and adoption rates have been on the decline. Sadly, 2025 is more of the same. We are overwhelmed and desperately need all the help we can get! We understand that not everyone is able to provide a permanent home for a dog, but there are still many ways you can help dogs in need in your community.

Not in a place to permanently adopt a Labrador, but still want to help out? Consider fostering! Fostering is the vital stepping stone to get a dog from homelessness to their forever family and provides an extremely rewarding experience. There is nothing like watching a scared dog learn to trust and love again and blossom into their true self. LRRF provides all veterinary care, food, and supplies for foster dogs. However, we do ask that you live within an hour or so drive of Fresno in order to take your foster dog to our vet as needed. Please apply to foster at: labrescuefresno.org/become-a-foster/foster-application

Not ready to foster, but still want to help? Consider making a tax-deductible donation to LRRF! We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and 100% of all donations go to care for the dogs in our rescue. You can donate via PayPal on our website, labrescuefresno.org, or via snail mail to LRRF, PO Box 1484, Clovis, CA 93613. LRRF covers all medical care for our dogs. We often take in older dogs or dogs with injuries and illnesses, so we are always in need of monetary donations so we can help more dogs with complicated medical needs.

Also check out our Amazon Wishlist, which has a variety of supplies our Labradors always need. We greatly appreciate and need your support to continue saving these great dogs.

If nothing else, please spay/neuter your pets, and educate and advocate for spay/neuter in your community! Please do not patronize backyard breeders as it perpetrates the cycle of neglect and abuse we so often see in rescue, and encourage your friends and family to do the same. Adopt! Shelters and rescues are full of wonderful dogs and cats just waiting for a family of their own.

We greatly appreciate your support and could not save dogs like Sadie without your help!
