The state of Maine is the main attraction this month and needles are out for blood with two sewing mysteries. Enjoy!

mystery book coverIn Moosetookalook, Maine, Liss MacCrimmon is prepping the Scottish Emporium for November’s shopping rush. But her father-in-law’s rustic hotel can barely turn a profit between autumn and ski season. When he comes up with a ploy aimed at childless couples who want to dodge family Thanksgivings, social media demands a boycott of the hotel because it doesn’t support family values. When the ringleader turns up dead, Liss must investigate to save her clan. Unfortunately, her meddlesome mother intends to help (and hinder) the investigation. Overkilt is twelfth in Kaitlyn Dunnett’s series.

fantasy book coverWiccans reside in Moody Bog, Maine. Kylie Strange runs Strange Herbs & Teas when she’s not protecting the Booke of the Hidden with her crossbow. But when the Booke releases two horror creatures into the world, it’s time to save her rural town again. Calling on handsome demon Erasmus for help, things go awry as the history of Moody Bog leads to the ghost of her grandfather. Deadly Rising is the second entry of Book of the Hidden by Jeri Westerson.

mystery book coverIt’s Mainely Needlepoint in Haven Harbor, Maine. Angie Curtis tags along with a friend to an estate sale and impulsively bids on a tattered embroidery of a coat of arms. Once home, she discovers a document from 1757 behind the frame. It’s a claim for a child from a foundling hospital. Curious, Angie is determined to find the common thread between the child and the coat of arms. She accepts an invite from a friend at the local news station to make an appeal to the public for information. When she gets death threats and the reporter is found murdered, it’s up to Angie to unravel the mystery. Thread Herrings is the seventh in Lea Wait’s Mainely Needlepoint mysteries.

mystery book coverThere are more needles in the works in Plum Harbor, Massachusetts. Knitter Suzanne Cavanaugh is fed up with her rival at Prestige Properties spending time needling at work and poaching Suzanne’s buyers. When the woman is found dead, poisoned by a diet shake, Suzanne is the prime suspect. But there are so many folks in town double-crossed by the woman, who also carried their dark secrets in her designer handbag, that there are many more suspects. The Black Sheep Knitters know Suzanne is being framed and get to work finding the real killer. Purls and Poison is the tenth Black Sheep Knitting Mystery from Anne Canadeo.

mystery book coverIn the Pacific Northwest it’s The Pint of No Return when Sloan Krause stars in the second book in Ellie Alexander’s Sloan Krase Mysteries. Oktoberfest in Leavenworth, Washington (I’ve been there!), is huge and everyone’s excited about the Nitro pub’s latest offering, Cherrywizen made with local cherries. But brewmaster Sloan is tapped out. She’s trying to manage the pub while dealing with divorce. To top it off, a movie company has come to film the brewfest. When the male lead over indulges on Cherrywizen and then slumps over the bar dead, everyone wonders–has he been murdered by microbrew?

mystery book coverFinally, Julie Hyzy gives us a stand-alone called Virtual Sabotage. Kenna Ward is an envoy for a virtual reality company whose implants allow people to create a world of daring scenarios in a safe environment. When a human brain thinks the terrifying event is real, Kenna steps into the picture and pulls them back to reality. But when people start responding in dangerous ways, Kenna’s investigation reveals a sinister conspiracy to take over the virtual world and the real one as well.
