As I say every year, Halloween is my favorite time of year. I love to dress up as a favorite character and show my love for a special interest. I love the cold weather, sweaters, Halloween-themed sugar cookies, and drinking hot coffee while snuggling under a blanket and watching spooky movies. But my favorite part of Halloween is playing horror games. So once again, like every year, here are my current favorite horror games to play this spooky season.

The Last of Us: Part 1 has been a classic famous video game for almost ten years. Recently, however, a remake of the game was released which brought the graphics to the level of the sequel, along with improvements to gameplay and interactions with NPCS. If you have never played The Last of Us, I highly suggest picking up this remake and giving it a try. The game is set in a world overrun by the “infected” caused by an overgrown spore called cordyceps. You play as Joel, a man in his 50s who is tasked with escorting a young girl across the country. The fights with the infected will bring terror, fun, and a challenge that is perfect for the spooky season.

Resident Evil 2: Remake, while not brand new, is a game I just picked up within the last few months. Zombies seem to be the theme for this article as the Resident Evil series features them. In my opinion, these are the scariest video game zombies I have ever encountered. In this remake, you play Leon Kennedy, a brand new cop who discovers the town he was supposed to start working in has been infested by zombies. This game brings a particular challenge as resources such as ammo are scarce so strategy is key. This is the perfect game to make you scream while making you think.

As I recently replayed this for my fiancé, my next recommendation is The Walking Dead by Telltale. Again, I unexpectedly made this a zombie-themed article. The game is divided into seasons and those seasons into five episodes. As all seasons are currently out, players will not have to wait for episodes to release before playing. In season 1, you play as Lee, a man on his way to prison when the apocalypse hits full force. He meets a young girl named Clementine and, through surviving with her, goes on a journey of redemption. The game is in comic art style and features difficult choices along the way. If action and/or survival horror is not your thing, The Walking Dead is a more relaxed way to enjoy some spooky thrills.

Halloween is almost here so get out your blankets, turn off the lights, and get ready to play some spooky games.
