Being given the opportunity to write reviews for this magazine, I have been able to explore different types of music, books and so on. This time round, I have been given the opportunity to write a review on the band A Current Affair, who I have placed among my favorites. Their sound (alternative rock) makes you want to bob your head along, while offering meaningful lyrics and messages that are punctuated by said sound. A Current Affair, though, has been around for a while, but you may be surprised to hear that this group has only been performing together for about eight months.

Now calling Clovis their home base, the band’s early roots are in Reedley. This group consists of one of the original members, Jordan Feliz (22 years old), who joined the band shortly after their formation in 2006. Feliz, whom I talked to about the band, says that he was offered to play in the band by the original members over a MySpace conversation.

Shortly after the original members left last year, Josh Redd and Tyler Duerr, both 19 years old, joined and have been playing since earlier this year. “A lot has changed and we are excited about the new direction the band is taking,” says Feliz about the new configuration.

Excited they should be, with the release of their new single “Hear It Now”; performing at Spirit West Coast in Monterey, which is a 3-day Christian music festival in mid-July; and working on their next EP, or extended play. Feliz says, “We just finished our new EP in Franklin, TN and are shooting to release it spring of 2012.”
Though the focus and full-time employment is the band, these three need to take time for leisure. When they’re not writing music or touring nationally, they’re doing activities like biking, playing video games or going to baseball games (the Giants).

Music aside, the band is looking forward to a new chapter in one of the member’s life: in about eight weeks, Jordan Feliz is getting married. So, between recording an EP and planning a wedding, it is definitely agreeable that life, according to Feliz, “has been crazy.”

Be sure to check out this band. They have an incredible sound and a synergy among them that’s apparent in their music. So, check out their website, or their Facebook page. Enjoy!
