Pam is a long time foster parent for Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network and has three of her own Cairns. She is also a “Blanket Auntie” helping to make blankets for each dog the rescue takes in.
“Every time I get a rescue, I follow the same procedure,” Pam said. “They get their own room separate from the other dogs for about three days. During this time, I alternate letting my dogs and then the rescue have the run of the house for a period of time so the new one gets acclimated. But, I must say, of the forty dogs I have rescued, this little mix with no Cairn is a bit unique.”
Arvada
Pam says that Arvada loves people, especially children, and when have we heard of a rescue, especially from a bad situation, loving children? In fact, her grandchildren love to visit and play with him. He’s always happy with his tail constantly wagging. It’s a bit surprising to see the gentle and sunny disposition of this little boy because Arvada came from a hoarder situation where he didn’t get a lot of attention. He also enjoys sitting and cuddling on a lap, giving kisses, and surprisingly having his teeth brushed. Pam said she can even turn him upside down, and his tail still keeps going.
The only time Arvada gets unhappy is when he is playing with the other dogs, that are older, and they tell him: Enough! Then, his little feelings get hurt, and he hangs his head. He’s never sad for long, though, as he loves playing with toys, going on walks, and running in the backyard with the other dogs.
Arvada walks well on a leash, prancing along and happy to greet everyone he meets, but he does not potty while walking. He prefers the privacy of his own yard, and for that reason, he needs a home with a fenced in yard. He also needs the company of other dogs to play with whether they are “siblings”, a friendly dog next door, or regular trips to a dog park. He will need someone at home at least most of the day as he requires regular outings.
Arvada shows no aggression, enjoys playing with children, and never tries to take their food. He’s a proud little boy and a real people dog. He’s funny, very lively, and will provide lots of joy and laughter. A real gem, Arvada deserves a forever home with a family that can give him lots of love and attention and to whom he can demonstrate his complete loyalty and love.
