This month we have a giveaway of One for the Hooks by Betty Hechtman and Murphy’s Slaw by Elizabeth Logan featured in past Coming Attractions columns. Details on how to enter below.

The heat has got us all down and fall can’t come soon enough. It seems publishers are impatient too as these witch mysteries can’t wait for Halloween. Plus, Kings River Life’s own Lorie Lewis Ham has started a new series as well!

Lorie Lewis Ham has set her first book of the Tower District Mysteries in a landmark area of Fresno. After her publisher drops her children’s book series, thirty-five-year-old Roxi Carlucci is forced to leave the California coast and move in with her cousin in the Central Valley. She becomes involved with a community theatre fundraiser for animal rescue. When a murder occurs during rehearsal, she looks at the players and wonders if it’s One of Us. Now Roxi and her cousin must ferret out the killer before there is more drama.

Vicki Delany takes us back to 1953 in her new Catskill Summer Resort Mystery. Elizabeth Grady’s mom is trying her hand at running Haggerman’s Catskills Resort and Elizabeth is there to help. When a guest is found dead in a lake, a copy of The Communist Manifesto is found in his cabin. The police think the man was a Russian spy but Elizabeth’s not sure. With the Red Scare running rampant, it’s Deadly Summer Nights.

Don’t Judge a Book by Its Hover when you read the first book in the Witchy Expo Services Mystery by Amy McNulty. When her famous grandmother retires, Nimue Toothhaker is her successor at Expo Services set in Cauldron Cove. Need storage for your floating items, illusions or teleportation for an event? Nimue can supply it. The only caveat grandma makes is that the job is shared with a warlock Nimue hates. At the Bookshop Con, a famous author drops dead in the convention lobby. This could spell disaster for the business and the town.

Welcome to the paranormal town of Fairy Falls. In book five, things are going great with Mina Tiller’s love life and friend Samantha’s acting career. When a body drops in the middle of one of Mina’s dates, her boyfriend knows the victim and feels compelled to find the killer. Meanwhile, Mina and Samantha infiltrate a group intent on turning the town where only witches and wizards reside. Love Will Find a Witch in the Fairy Falls series by Samantha Silver.

We’re all Hooked on a Feline in Sofie Kelly’s lucky thirteenth Magical Cats mystery. It’s summer in Mayville Heights and librarian Kathleen Paulson and her detective boyfriend are hyped to attend the local music festival’s last concert. When a band member is found dead, Kathleen remembers he was researching his genealogy. Looking closer at his family tree, she and her boyfriend find something suspicious. Can she and cats, Owen and Hercules, solve the murder?

Murder Can Frost Your Doughnut as Celeste Cabot discovers in the fourth Haunted Craft Fair Mystery by Rose Pressey. She’s at a county fair in Tennessee to sell her paintings. The highlight is the celebrity impersonation contest. But Elvis hasn’t left his trailer because he’s found dead clutching a doughnut. To solve the crime, Celeste paints an Elvis portrait and the ghost of the impersonator appears. With his “spirited” help, she and Chihuahua Van (Gogh) set out to find the killer.

Ready to do a little time-traveling? Because twenty-first century journalist Olivia Watson thinks attending a Halloween party in 1934 with a detective friend will be fun—that is, until a Five & Dime mogul is murdered and the killer saw Olivia’s face. The smart thing to do would be to go back to their own century, but the twosome stay. They need to navigate unreliable clues, misdirection, dark secrets, and ghosts before time runs out. Death Rang the Bell is the third Blackwell & Watson Time-Travel by Carol Pouliot.
