Most of us have grown up with Charlie Brown and all of his friends, whether through TV or comic strips—You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown brings those iconic characters to life on the stage.

E & e Performing Arts Center in Kingsburg is a relatively new theatre company that recently moved into their own building (see KRL article). E & e offers classes in the arts for ages three through 18 as well as a class for senior citizens, and presents several shows throughout the year. Their summer show this year features the very familiar characters of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, Schroeder and Sally.

“We chose this show mostly because one of our teachers wanted to get involved in directing it and thought it would be a fun one to do,” said E & e Artistic Director Lissa Engstrom. “The show also speaks to any audience member’s memories of the hardship and joys of growing up.”

My daughter and I got to see this show opening weekend and it is indeed a fun show that appeals to all ages and is a great one to take the entire family too. The eight member cast ranges from age 13 to 24, with two actors splitting the role of Snoopy, and one understudy for Lucy. When we saw the show, KRL contributor Jacob Alvarado was playing the role of Snoopy, which gave him the opportunity to show off his skills as a dancer and singer. Jef Derderian was adorable as Charlie Brown, and the entire cast did a good job.

Lissa stated that it has been a lot of work having four shows within the first three months since moving to the new location, but it has been rewarding. “We are positive that E&e will continue to grow and will look back on this busy time as a wonderful learning experience. The talent is strong in the cast and this show will be good (this interview took place before the show opened). Could we have done more with it? Probably with a few technical things, but we are doing what we can. Overall it’s a very fun time!”

You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown is a fun, cute show. If you’re looking for a great night out for the entire family I highly recommend heading out to Kingsburg and supporting local theatre!
