There is a lot to love in this Austin Starr mystery.

The setting is mainly Vancouver, but also Seattle in 1969 and focuses on the women’s liberation movement which is an integral part of the plot. Having vivid memories of all that went on during the late ‘60s, I have to say Kendall has done a great job weaving all of the emotions of the times into the story.

Austin Starr is a terrific heroine. Loyal to her friend, Larissa, who is suspected of a murder, Austin flies to Vancouver to show her support. Of course, the inevitable happens! She’s quickly drawn into the investigation, despite her husband’s warning not to involve herself.book

Yes, Austin is married and happily so, though her husband isn’t thrilled with her playing detective. To further complicate everything, she has a darling baby, a baby she’s taken with her when she travels to help her friend. The juggling of her son Wyatt’s care and needs claims much of her attention, as it should, and adds yet another realistic touch to the exciting events.

As a reader, I was immediately intrigued by the mysteries–yes, there are more than one–the great collection of interesting characters, how what was going on during that time period affected everything and Austin’s relationship with her husband.

I highly recommend Rainy Day Women!

  5. Hello, Ann and Pamela. I am glad you both enjoyed Austin Starr’s new adventures. She traveled thousands of miles to have this second one and in the next book, she will travel even farther. I am finding that I enjoy putting her into different geographic settings and evoking her responses to them so, like her creator, Austin loves to travel. Thank you so much for your support. It means the world to me!
