Details at the end of this post on how to win a copy of Seas the Day and a link to purchase it.

My all-time favorite summertime activity is going to the beach. As a kid, I loved bobbing in the waves and body surfing. I delighted in the delightful buoyancy the salty ocean gave me. I also learned a deep respect for the ocean’s power after being pounded by a few waves. That respect taught me to be vigilant even when enjoying the experience because another wave would come along soon.

In those dreamy youthful days, I thought about mermaids and how they could take anything the ocean dished out. Certainly, mermaids loved to frolic in the sea to their heart’s content.

In Seas the Day, my catering sleuth River Holloway has a deep-seated love for the ocean, though she’s graduated from mermaid adulation to sunbathing at the shore. The beach is her happy place, a site of renewal and complete relaxation. The very constancy and vibrancy of the sea draws her back time and again. Good thing she lives on an island!

Seas the Day is spiced with banquets, anniversary meals, and other special occasion events, but the main course is the mystery of the missing man and the subsequent death of his mother.

The police are on the case—and so is the unsinkable River Holloway.

  2. Mom and I went to Wildwood, NJ every summer for a few days or sometimes, a week! Loved lying on the beach and then, at night, walking on the boardwalk and riding on the amusement rides.
