Post It Delivered!
Bernadette “Bernie” Butler is integral in the tiny mountain town of Sugar Creek Gap, Kentucky, delivering mail and packages, joining in all community events, and, as it too often happens, discovering and investigating some suspicious deaths. She lost her husband years ago in a tragic automobile accident, raised her son into a successful adult, became a grandma to grandchild Clara, and, although not without some ups and downs, has been opening her heart to Mac Tabor, once her husband’s best friend. With a whole town of friends for support, the “Front Porch Ladies” for gossip, her loyal “fur” friends for company, and her BFF Iris Peabody for the occasional “I’ve got a feeling” revelations, Bernie has life where she wants it…coming up first-class!
Post Mortem Earns 5/5 Holes in One…Engaging Southern Gem!
Bernie is the president of the Sugar Creek High School Booster Cub, and this year’s fundraiser is a departure from the casino night she started fifteen years ago. However interest in that was waning, and although this new golfing event seems to be bringing in the fun, can it bring in the money? However, Rachel Faulkner, one of the parents, is a extremely stressed. Her husband Jeff, whose foursome had already completed their round, was nowhere to be found. There’d been an argument, someone said, and a few clubs were thrown in anger. Jeff had stomped off the course, and now, he can’t be found. During Bernie’s rounds, catching up with information about last night’s event, she learns her friend Iris has had one of her “crazy feelings.” She’s not known for a perfect record with these feelings, not even close, but in this case, she might be onto something. Jeff Faulkner is found dead, and there’s no question it was murder.
FOOOUR! Tonya Kappes has added another engaging drama to her Mail Carrier Mystery series with this seventh book. The drama is engaging with several rumors fueling the gossip around town, and what started out as a relatively easy case, with the intrigue of high-stakes gambling, major debts, and more, turns delightfully complex and engaging, especially when Bernie decides to get involved…trouble usually ensues. The final reveal had been on my radar, but it isn’t the destination, but the journey, and a journey through Kappes’ literary universe is just plain fun! Beyond the murder mystery, readers, like me, have become invested in the characters: Bernie and her grandchild, her son Grady and his own young family, Mac, and my favorite, the Front Porch Ladies. Kappes’ writing style is also key to my enjoyment with enough description to make even newbies relishing in the small community, but her creative language and clever banter also does well to illustrate characters and their personalities. All painted with southern flair, this book is tops.
