Reggie, aged nine, and Katie, aged ten and a half, have lived together from puppyhood and came into NY/NJ Scottie Rescue together.
Erica from the rescue thinks that they do not necessarily need to be adopted together. Reggie is the alpha. He is a happy, bouncy boy that is very friendly. He does well with people and other dogs, though he is a bit bossy.
Katie is quieter, shy, and a bit of a loner, though Reggie keeps trying to get her to join in games and play. Katie does get along with other dogs, but doesn’t play with them. She is very interested in food and needs to be fed separately. Over all she is very sweet and enjoys being patted and cuddled.
Reggie and Katie were turned into rescue by an elderly man who said he could no longer care for them. His wife had died, and he said they were really her dogs. Both Scotties were in poor condition. They were thin, their coats were filthy, and it was obvious they hadn’t seen a groomer in a long time.
Despite their poor and filthy condition, neither dog has any serious medical conditions, though Erica says both are in need of dentals. Although their medical records show they are up to date on vaccines, they will go to the rescue’s vet for evaluations. Reggie also needs to be neutered. Their health needs will be taken care of, and Reggie will be neutered before they are put up for adoption.
Reggie needs an active family, perhaps with another dog he could play with. He enjoys walks and play time. He walks on a leash but is bouncy and may pull if he sees something of interest. Katie is easier to walk. Neither needs a fenced in yard, though one might benefit Reggie for play times.
Both dogs have robust appetites and need quality food. A good food will help their coats improve. Though Reggie needs an active person or family, Katie is quieter and would be a good companion cuddling in the lap of her very own person. She would be OK with another dog if it was one that would leave her alone. It is not known how either Scottie would do with cats.
Erica estimates that both dogs will be ready for their forever homes in early June.
