What To Expect When You’re Expecting was inspired by the non-fiction best selling book of the same name—a book that many have counted on to see them through the joys and fears of pregnancy, myself included.

In this movie, we see pregnancy through the eyes of five very different couples whose lives are interconnected. You see one couple who has been trying for years to get pregnant, one who has had to give up and adopt, an unexpected pregnancy that ends in tragedy, another from the perspective of a career woman, and a perfect pregnancy (which I have never known of anyone having). This movie shows their fears, their joys, and their frustrations in the setting of a different sort of romantic comedy with a great cast that includes Cameron Diaz, Matthew Morrison (Glee), Jennifer Lopez, Dennis Quaid, Anna Kendrick, Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl) and many other names you would recognize.

Typically, I’m not a romantic comedy person and am especially not drawn to movies involving pregnancy (went through it twice and it’s not something I care to remember even though it was well worth it in the end). However, my daughter wanted to see it so we went. I have to say this one was well done and I really liked how they showed almost every kind of perspective and setting for pregnancy. I especially loved the Daddy group and how it showed their side of things as well and that dad’s too come in all shapes, sizes, and personalities.

This movie will make you laugh, if you’ve had kids you’ll relate to at least one of these couples, and at moments it can make you cry. If you’re looking to go see a different type of romantic comedy head out and see What To Expect When You’re Expecting.

Rated PG-13 for crude and sexual content, thematic elements and language. Check out the trailer on the movie website.

What To Expect When You’re Expecting is now playing at Dinuba Platinum Theatres 6. Showtimes can be found on their website.
