Details on how to win a signed hard copy of Mulch Ado About Murder by Edith Maxwell, from a past Coming Attractions, at the end of this post.

Time for summer time beach reads. There’s a new series to try, our favorite bookstore mysteries, and a few titles that will make you crave a cupcake. Enjoy!

bookLeave the housework behind and pick up a copy of Bad Housekeeping, the first of the Agnes and Effie Mysteries by Maia Chance. When 28 year old Agnes Blyth is dumped by her professor boyfriend for the Pilates instructor, she decides to take her eccentric Aunt Effie’s offer to help restore the Stagecoach Inn. Work has barely started when the women find the body of a woman with whom they recently had a verbal altercation. Knowing they’ve been framed and despite threats, car chases, and shotgun blasts, they are determined to find out who is behind all of this. Maia Chance is also the author of The Discreet Retrieval Agency and Fairy Tale Fatal mysteries.

bookWe all probably love books about bookstores and libraries. In the eleventh Bibliophile mystery penned by Kate Carlisle, San Francisco bookbinder Brooklyn Wainwright is waiting for her future in-laws to arrive from England. On top of that, Brooklyn is unnerved by the rumor that the shops around her will be demolished to build a high rise. The find of a rare edition of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland causes bad blood. Petty vandalism starts, a shelf falls on the owner of a juice bar, and the cobbler is found dead next to him. Once Upon a Spine will make yours tingle.

bookAnother bookish mystery is Lorna Barrett’s Booktown mystery #11. Stoneham, New Hampshire bookstore owner Tricia Miles is surprised when her ne’er-do-well father shows up and promptly becomes a murder suspect when a woman with a scandalous past is found dead. Her faith in her father falters after the police tell Tricia her dad’s a con man. Now she dusts off her sleuthing skills to find A Just Cause behind the crime.

bookThe folks of Hubbard, Ohio, take any opportunity to bring tourists to town, even the 130th birthday of The Statue of Liberty. Laurel Inwood and her aunt are featuring French cuisine all week at their restaurant. Needing a little help on their quiche, they pull in a former French chef. However, the chef is found dead after drinking poison laced Chardonnay. French Fried is the fifth in Ethnic Eats mystery from Kylie Logan. Bonus: Recipes are included.

bookJules Capshaw’s bakery, Torte, is transforming from a local café to a pastry palace in Ashland, Oregon. Her estranged husband desperately wants her to come aboard his cruise ship and bake her treats. A free cruise is hard to resist. Not on the itinerary is a dead body. Nobody can identify the young woman and the passengers are antsy with a killer on the ship. Jules is plunged into dangerous waters as she tries to solve the case. A Crime of Passion Fruit is the sixth in the Bakeshop Mysteries by Ellie Alexander.
