When you become involved in rescue, if you didn’t know it before, you quickly learn that life isn’t fair and people can be superficial. Black dogs and cats for instance, whether the lack of interesting markings or stigma with historical perceptions of witches with black animals, etc., are statistically adopted less often than their counterparts.

Pligrim

Well, the same goes for so called “plain brown dogs.” In contrast to flashy-colored dogs or dogs with interesting markings, these plain brown dogs are often times overlooked. This is extremely unfair, however, there are ways to combat this and help the public move from aesthetics and instead find their best companion and family member. We do this by highlighting the dogs’ most important traits and impressing upon adopters and the public what really matters when choosing such a close, long-term friend.

A “plain brown dog” at our center who embodies this best is Pilgrim. While he’s absolutely stunning, with a beautiful fawn coat, muscular physique and amber eyes, he does get overlooked. Pilgrim is a young dog with so much love, for both people and other dogs. Pilgrim loves playing with his doggy friends at Fresno Bully Rescue and getting attention from his volunteer humans. If given the chance, this boy just shines.

He is the epitome of the resilience of the Pitbull Terrier breed. Pilgrim takes everything in stride and seems happy to greet each sunrise. The saying “you cannot judge a book by its cover” is truly appropriate when we talk about Pilgrim. He doesn’t need to be flashy on the outside when his inside is bursting with joy, intelligence, loyalty, and love. He’s waiting at Fresno Bully Rescue for the right person/family, YOU, to notice!
