Three Shots to the Wind: Sea Glass Saloon Mystery By Sherry Harris
Review by Sandra Murphy

It seemed like a typical day in the Sea Glass Saloon, at least until Joaquin called Chloe out onto the deck. Small planes towing banners to advertise local events are common. Seeing one that says, “I love you, Chloe Jackson” isn’t. The banner is soon followed by a huge bouquet of lilacs, her favorite flower. Same message. Ditto the magnum of sparkling wine.

Chloe heads for home, which for her means a twenty-minute jog down the beach to her house. On the way, she spots Deputy Biffle. Stopping to see what’s the problem, she wishes she hadn’t. It’s a dead body, her photo in hand, and worse yet, it’s someone she knows well.

Perry is, was, her ex-fiancé. They broke up a year and a half ago. Chloe headed for Florida. Her job in Chicago was eliminated, she inherited a beach house and job, so why not stay? She hadn’t heard from Perry since.

Apparently, Perry decided to combine a convention of accountants with winning Chloe back. She didn’t really know him after all.

To help find out who killed Perry, Chloe investigates on her own, and finds several women who all thought they were “the one” for Perry. Chloe’s two brothers show up without warning to be her bodyguards—about ten minutes before Rip is due to arrive for a special dinner. Add to all that, Vivi, her boss, is trying to fix her up with someone other than Rip. Stressed is an understatement.

This is the third in the series. Chloe just gets better and better. Her relationship with Rip is becoming a real relationship, not just a date. She’s learned to live alone in a small town, rather than with a roommate in a huge city. Chloe’s someone you’d want for a friend although for anything more complicated than beer or glass of wine, ask Joaquin to make your drink. Besides, he’s a hunk. I look forward to seeing Chloe again soon.

Harris also wrote nine Sarah Winston Garage Sale mysteries, all reviewed here. They’re just as enjoyable as the Sea Glass Saloon series, lacking only the warm weather and ocean view.

Sandra Murphy lives in the shadow of the Arch in St. Louis Missouri. She’s editor for Peace, Love, and Crime: Crime Stories Inspired by the Songs of the ’60s, with twenty-two cozy stories. She also edited A Murder of Crows, twenty-one stories featuring animals and crime (no animals were harmed). She also writes for magazines, newsletters, and the occasional guest blog. Both anthologies are available at the usual outlets, print or ebook.

  3. I enjoyed the Garage Sale movies on Hallmark and would love to read that series. This series sounds like fun too. Who wouldn’t like to inherit a beach house and job just when you lose your own job? I’d love to win a copy of Three Shots to the Wind and get to know Chloe and her world.
