Libraries are wonderful places filled with books, movies, music, computers and so much more—all to be used for free! Most also offer special programs and events—also for free. One program at the Reedley Library takes advantage of the many talented people here in our Valley—its called Talent Tuesday.
Talent Tuesday takes place the second Tuesday of every month. It got its beginnings in early 2020, but then had to take a break for two years due to the pandemic, and some other building issues they were dealing with at the time. It was started by Senior Library Assistant Linda Rotan right after she took on the position. I took a moment to chat with Linda about it recently.
KRL: Where did the idea come from?
Linda: Sanger Library had Music Monday so that was my inspiration.
KRL: What time is Talent Tuesday, will you be taking a break during the summer, and are you looking for any specific type of talent?
Linda: It starts at 6 p.m. It is year round. I am happy to have any talent.
KRL: Who are some of the guests you have had perform on Talent Tuesday?
Linda: We’ve had a ukelele band, exchange students, RCTC (River City Theatre Co), Adult Paint Night, The Summit P.T., Sierra School of Music, Reedley High School Madrigals, Shades of Jazz, Rich Kuhns on accordion, RC Sax Quartet, Mac n Jane (New Wrinkles), Reedley Museum, Blake Jones & the Trike Shop, authors, Animal Talk, Christmas Caroling, Tech Time to name a few.
KRL: What has the response been like?
Linda: The audience is usually small but appreciative. The biggest crowds are the ones with students because the parents, grandparents, etc. show up!
KRL: Who is performing in May?
Linda: The Reedley College Brass Quartet. It will be on May 13.
KRL: What are some of your other programs?
Linda: We have our ongoing programs: Family Night, Miniature Crafting, Crochet & Knitting Circle, Beginning Crochet Class, Cubing Club, Storytime and Read to a Dog. You can look at the Fresno County Library website for details https://www.fresnolibrary.org/ and check out the Friends of the Reedley Public Library Facebook page.
When I chatted with Linda, they did not yet have a talent for June and there are other openings throughout the year, so if you are interested in sharing your talent at the Reedley Library be sure to give Linda Rotan a call (559) 638-2818. You can also keep an eye on the Fresno County Library website for updates on this year’s summer reading program and events!
The Reedley Library is located at 1027 E St., Reedley, CA.
