Treasure in Paradise By Kathi Daley: Review/Giveaway

FROM THE 2017 Articles,

by Kathleen Costa

Details at the end of this post on how to enter to win a copy of Treasure in Paradise, and a link to purchase it from Amazon, and another one for an indie bookstore where a portion of the price goes to help support KRL.

Garrett Hanford, close friend of the Jensen family, wants to renovate his resort, but a stroke has put him out of commission. Turtle Cove Resort has been in his family for generations, and the corporate vultures are offering to buy it, but their plans to tear it down and build a brand new mega-resort doesn’t sit well. So Tj, a big crew of family, friends and pets head out to South Carolina to lend a helping hand, but when they arrive they get an unwanted surprise…a dead Buck Barnes in the attic.

Tj can’t let a dead body effect the work for which they’ve been enlisted, and Garrett’s desire to maintain the integrity of the family resort and keep it out of the hands of mega-corporations is important. Tj decides to be Garrett’s champion and sets out to uncover what happened. Blackbeard the parrot shows up and just might have a clue.book

Several suspects pop up in Tj’s investigation. She discovers Buck Barnes is a not-so-respected treasure hunter who has told everyone he found a map leading to the legendary Barkley’s treasure. Even though Buck was told the map had been destroyed years before by Garrett’s mother who blamed it for the death of his grandfather and father, greed has a way of being at the top of the motive list.

Greed also seems to implicate the corporate representative who is stirring up the locals with talk of an economic boon should Garret sell his resort, but a bit of “googling” uncovers some suspicious circumstances that led the corporation to buy land all over the world at “dirt” cheap prices. The community starts to pick sides adding to the suspect list. So, greed? Yeah, that seems to be a powerful motive…now for opportunity and means. Who else has designs on the land, the map, the treasure?

Kathi Daley writes several series of which I am a big fan, but I had not yet started the Tj Jensen Paradise Lake Mystery series…what was I thinking! I’ve missed so much! Henrey Press has picked up this series, so the new book, seventh in the series, is the first place I’ll start. Fans, I’m sure, will be thrilled rejoining Tj and her crew on another absorbing mystery, and newbies, such as myself, will be just as entertained.

There’s enough background information to be comfortable with the characters and get glimpses as to how previous plot lines effect this story. Even though this series has all the components I enjoy in my ‘cozy’ mysteries, developed characters and an engaging mystery on which I can use my own skill to uncover the culprit, Kathi Daley’s signature style is still what makes this story a standout. Her humor, a few sweet romantic interludes, crafty characters, and very entertaining, albeit surprising, twists and turns leading to a big reveal is the reading treasure you seek!

Treasure in Paradise earns 5/5 Treasure Maps!
