Joyce is a part of Animal Compassion Team, an animal rescue in Squaw Valley.

Our Reedley Homeless Pets project has been wonderfully successful. In just a little over a month we have been able to save 38 dogs and cats from going to the Central California SPCA for disposition. Our Facebook page (please “like” Reedley Homeless Pets on Facebook and follow us Twitter-@ReedleyPets) has been an invaluable tool for networking these pets. One dog and one puppy even found forever homes after being spotted on the Facebook page!

Some of the 38 homeless pets saved by rescue groups in the city’s new partnership with Animal Compassion Team.

Several rescue groups have come along side of Animal Compassion Team in an effort to help. Cat House on the Kings, Central Valley Animal Lovers, Feline Friends, Fresno Bully Rescue, and Southern California Dachshund Rescue, have been real lifesavers and we appreciate their willingness to help.

The work has just begun. We can’t be content with just saving lives (although nothing feels better) we need to get to the heart of the problem: encouraging responsible pet ownership. My goal is to form a group of volunteers in Reedley excited to tackle the homeless pet issue. They could be a sort of boosters club: fundraising for free and low cost spay and neuter and sponsoring vaccination clinics. We need to find ways to stop the flow into the shelter so that the rescue groups can move on and tackle the next town in need.
