Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno shares with us every other month about their rescue dogs.

Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno (LRRF) is pleased to introduce you to the fluffiest, goofiest, most playful and loving pup in town! Meet Woodie! Now you may notice from the pictures that Woodie does not look much like a purebred Labrador, and honestly, we are not sure how much Labrador is technically in his blood. But here at LRRF, we try our best to help every dog in need, even if we stretch the definition of a Labrador a bit. And this sweet boy is all Labrador in his heart, and that is what matters the most!

Woodie

Woodie was found as a stray by a good Samaritan in our community who reached out to LRRF, and we just had to help this sweet fella out. Woodie is one year old and is a big hunk of love, weighing in at over ninety pounds. Woodie is a super social, happy-go-lucky boy just looking for that special family of his very own to love forever. Woodie loves people of all ages and is great with kids, but his favorite is being one of the fellas.

He truly loves human interaction and thrives with attention from his people. He is great with other dogs and just wants to be friends with everyone! Woodie is even quite tolerant of cats once he has been corrected by a dog-savvy feline friend. He loooooves to play and have fun! Play fetch, go for a jog, a hike, whatever – Woodie is always up for an adventure! And when the fun & games are over, he loves to snuggle up and hear about your day while you pet his soft fluffy fur.

Woodie’s people are of utmost importance to him, and he always does his best to make you happy. He is pretty quiet and doesn’t bark often. Instead he just express his joy with lots of tail-wagging! He is crate-trained and house-trained and will do great in training classes as he is so eager to please his people. Woodie is not a big fan of swimming, but he is a big fan of toys, so get ready for some ball-throwing, chew-toy wrestling fun!!

Woodie is an energetic young dog, and like all young Labbies, he will need a family who is committed to exercising and playing with him daily and who will attend training classes with him to ensure a lifetime of good behavior. Woodie is full of happy vibes and is sure to bring a smile to your face and warm your heart with his sunny disposition.

Shockingly, Woodie has been in our rescue for months already! How has no one adopted this amazing dog yet?! The past year has been really tough as shelters and rescues have been inundated with dogs of all ages in need of families and adoption rates have been on the decline. Sadly, so far, 2023 is more of the same. We are overwhelmed and need all the help we can get! We understand that not everyone is in a position to provide a permanent home for a dog, but there are still many ways you can help dogs in need in your community.

Not in a place to permanently adopt a Labrador, but still want to help out? Consider fostering! Fostering is the vital stepping stone to get a dog from homelessness to their forever family and provides an extremely rewarding experience. There is nothing like watching a scared dog learn to trust and love again and blossom into their true selves. LRRF provides all veterinary care, food, and supplies for foster dogs, however, we do ask that you live within an hour or so drive of Fresno in order to take your foster dog to our vet as needed. Please apply to foster at: labrescuefresno.org/become-a-foster/foster-application.

Not ready to foster, but still want to help? Consider making a tax-deductible donation to LRRF! We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and 100% of all donations go to care for the dogs in our rescue. Donate via PayPal on our website, www.labrescuefresno.org, or via snail mail to LRRF, PO Box 1484, Clovis, CA 93613. Also check out our Amazon Wishlist which has a variety of supplies our Labradors always need.

If nothing else, please spay/neuter your pets, and educate and advocate for spay/neuter in your community! Please do not patronize backyard breeders as it perpetrates the cycle of neglect and abuse we so often see in rescue, and encourage your friends and family to do the same. Adopt! Shelters are full of wonderful dogs and cats just waiting for a family of their own.

We greatly appreciate your support and could not save dogs like Woodie without your help! If you are led to join us in our mission, please contact LRRF by email at muttlovedogs@gmail[dot]com.
