In this our Earth Day issue we are featuring e-books and books that somehow tie in to Earth Day. Details at the end of this post on how to enter to win an e-book copy of The Skeleton Garden, along with a link to purchase it from Amazon.

Newlywed Pru Parke is happily settled in at Greenoak, the birthplace of her English mother. In this bucolic setting Pru is also working alongside her brother Simon, who only recently reunited with his American sister. Built-up tensions still simmer between them, as Pru can’t help but feel guilty for being raised by the parents who gave Simon up for adoption. Family ties and loyalty are at the core of Pru’s heart, and as a result she doesn’t hesitate to welcome her husband’s nephew Orlando, sent to visit due to the teenager’s Internet shenanigans. book

Simon’s aspirations to have their most recent gardening project photographed for a prominent magazine dash Pru’s hopes for a relaxing, unpressured, and angst-free gardening endeavor. Orlando’s involuntary assistance certainly doesn’t help, and his passive-aggressive labor stems from the deprivation of his mobile devices. What does spark his interest is the fascinating, but unfortunate, discovery of a German plane buried in the garden with its pilot’s remains still inside. The resulting investigation will expose secrets of Greenoak hidden since World War II and provide publicity for the garden and town in ways Simon never intended.

This charming series continues to grow stronger with its cast of characters who are so grounded and yet continue to grow in their ‘mature’ stage of life. Pru struggles to grow closer to Simon, whose moodiness often has her off-balance and unsettled. The one thing Pru never questions is the devotion of her husband Christopher Pearse, a former London Detective Inspector more than happy to settle down as a Special Constable in the sleepy countryside. They have both discovered that even in Greenoak murder and crimes fester beneath the calm surface, but the sardonic and extremely intelligent pair have more than enough support and resources between them to meet any challenge. Romance, gardening, and history all blend together perfectly in this charming English village mystery.

  4. This is another author I am not acquainted with and I would enjoy reading “Skelton Garden”. An English garden and a German plane buried in the garden with a dead pilot sounds like a great storyline. Can’t wait to read.
