Honora, or Foxy, as she is known to her friends, came into Col Potter Cairn Terrier Rescue because her elderly owner could no longer care for her. This sweet little five year old wheaten Cairn was very fortunate because her vet took charge of her, made sure she was up to date on her medical needs, and then called Col Potter.

Foxy

Cindy, a Col Potter foster mom who has fostered over thirty Cairns for the rescue organization, was the lucky volunteer chosen to foster Foxy. Cindy works for Binghamton University three days a week and is home the rest of the time, which is a good situation for Foxy. “She was a bit chubby when she came to me weighing about sixteen pounds,” said Cindy, “but she didn’t really have behavior issues like we often find with fosters from puppy mills or abusive situations. Her main problem is allergies, and not just seasonal ones, but our vet is working with us on treating them. She had lost some hair but, with treatment, that is growing back.”

Foxy is a happy girl. She loves car rides, long walks and meeting new people. She gets along well with Cindy’s three Cairns, all adopted from Col Potter, but she can get snarky about her food or if someone tries to take her toy. However, Cindy says that she is very good about going to the vet where she makes sure she is the star of the show!

Probably Foxy’s most endearing trait is the way she sits up and talks. Cindy says she does that whenever she wants a chest rub or to remind Cindy that it’s dinnertime, and she’s got an ample bottom to balance on.

A good home for Foxy would be one without small children, though she would be fine with older kids. Although she gets along well with other dogs, she does tend to be dominant, so going into a home with another dog would require that dog accepting Foxy’s dominance. She will need a forever home where someone is home with her and not a situation where she is left alone all day with her people away at work, because she loves being with people and does not like being left alone. She will also need someone who is prepared to deal with ongoing allergies and is understanding about typical terrier behavior like her occasional selective hearing.
