Details at the end of this post on how to enter to win a copy of Death by Sunken Treasure, along with a link to purchase the book where a portion goes to help support KRL & an indie bookstore.

There was nothing Florida paralegal Hayden Kent wouldn’t do for Dana Terry, the woman who stood in as a second mother after the death of both of Hayden’s parents. Now it is Dana who needs assistance when she discovers the drowned body of her own son, garbed in his professional diving gear. An experienced treasure salvage diver, Mike Terry forebodingly died just after signing a will in Hayden’s law office. Knowing the torment Dana is enduring due to the death of her child, Hayden agrees to Dana’s plea to follow Mike’s last dive and give her the closure, if not answers, she so desperately needs.book

Due to the suspicious timing of Mike’s death, Hayden has her questions, despite knowing that under water the slightest carelessness can result in death. She herself nearly succumbs to narcosis, a nitrogen gas reaction that results in a drunk-like state of impairment that can easily prove deadly. As Hayden discovers a proliferation of wills, as well as the modern-day allure of doubloons, she receives threatening emails and Dana is nearly assaulted by one of Mike’s exes. As much as Hayden loves the historical island, she can’t escape the stark realization that the beauty of Pigeon Key hides shady secrets both above and below the waterline.

The somber tone of the novel is uplifted by the fascinating and compelling details involved in the demanding diving experience. While most of us will only grasp hints of it during recreational snorkeling, scuba diving requires an adherence to details that literally mean the difference between life and death. To paraphrase Hayden, the beauty of the ocean reefs can’t mask the reality that at one hundred feet, no one can hear you scream. A budding relationship with her boss, attorney Grant Huffman, adds an element of romance, while continual twists and motives hurtle the plot forward. An unpredictable ending will no doubt leave readers completely breathless and more than willing to jump back in to the waters with this irrepressible and unbreakable heroine.

I enjoy reads that offer insight into a sport, food, or hobby that I am unfamiliar. I love snorkeling, but scuba diving is scary with my challenges to have things covering my face. However, reading about it would be ok. Thanks, Kait, for a great read! Thanks, KRL, for the opportunity.

HI Kathleen, thanks for the kind words and for entering. Good luck! If you snorkel, you might want to keep scuba in your back pocket. The masks are no different, and the sights are breathtaking!
