They say it wasn’t really a Rogue show. It wasn’t really a Rogue venue, just an ad in the program. It was only a one-night show, and it’s over. I don’t care! It’s my brother, and I want to tell you how good he was!

George “the Giant” Mc Arthur blew out the stage at Full Circle Brewing as part of the Circus Emporium Roadshow, and it wasn’t just with 100 firecrackers on his chest—it was with talent!

George knows sideshow. He’s been at it for more than 20 years. He has studied the arts of the sideshow: the spiel of the talker, the body transfer of the fire eater, the gag-reflex suppression of the sword swallower, the body control needed for the bed of nails, and more.

If you’ve never seen a seven-foot-three-inch giant doing balloon animals that defy description, you haven’t seen George. If you haven’t seen a man slam a nail through a board without using a hammer, you haven’t seen George. If you haven’t seen the world’s largest Human Crazy straw…you haven’t seen nothin’! I mean, George will make you look at a bath towel in new and amazing ways.

He loves what he’s doing. You can see it in that little grin he gets just before he does something that makes audiences hide their eyes and faces because they can’t believe what they are seeing, and would prefer not to see it if it meant they would have to believe it.

George the Giant was not on the bill by himself. The show was the Circus Emporium Roadshow. Shea FreeLove hosted with frenetic zeal, and Fiasco Sideshow did an energetic set-up to a feat of juggling, but the extra-special something was long-time sideshow showman Bobby Reynolds, who did some classic magic tricks, told old sideshow stories…and older jokes, and provided a classic of the you-gotta-see-it-variety, a blade box that should have sectioned a lovely young lady into more pieces than you would a grapefruit! How does she survive? You’ll have to pay a dollar to see…and THAT’s sideshow!

George was in Fresno for one night only, but the Circus Emporium Roadshow will be back at Full Circle on Saturday, March 8, at 8:30pm, with Bobby Reynolds and another headliner…Enigma (with Serana Rose)! You’ve seen him on the X-Files! A man with puzzle pieces tattooed across his face and body, tinted blue! Horns coming out of his head, and the most bizarre sideshow performer since…George the Giant! Full Circle Brewing Co. is at 620 F St. in Fresno, north of Ventura St.

By the way, Friday, March 7, George the Giant will be performing in Bakersfield at On the Rocks on 18th Street with some of the same craziness as seen in Fresno.

Terrance V. Mc Arthur is a Community Librarian for the WoW! (WithOut Walls) Division of the Fresno County Public Library, roaming the Valley to meet the public’s information needs.
