Anastasia Pollack is smart and compassionate, a combination which is sometimes contradictory. Those qualities tend to divert her attention and focus from family and work.
Her smarts have helped her work her way through personal crises after her “louse of an ex-spouse” left her deeply in his gambling debt. Her compassion has led her to allow her communist mother-in-law to live with her, bringing political baggage and a gaggle of like-minded friends who constantly raid the refrigerator, take over her dining room to create protest signs, and get themselves arrested for their shenanigans.
Anastasia’s become known for finding dead bodies and solving murders. This 14th Anastasia Pollack Crafting Mystery brings the body about as close to home as it can get without it being in her living room. Worse yet, Anastasia didn’t even know the new neighbor across the street who was murdered, yet the incident focuses unwanted news media attention on her.
It’s hard to be Anastasia!
This latest murder creates chaos matched only by her mother-in-law’s antics. Yet two support communities, family and work, help ground Anastasia and come to her rescue when the mayhem threatens to overwhelm her.
Anastasia has formed a fondness for Detective Spader, who is working yet another case she’s involved in, and she treats him almost as a family member. He works too hard, doesn’t sleep enough when on a case, and can rely on a home-cooked meal and strong coffee from Anastasia and her spouse Zack. Together, the three share clues and theories that help Spader piece together the case.
Despite the seriousness of crime and murder, Winston injects a healthy dose of humor in the series. From the mother-in-law’s antics, to a Shakespeare-quoting parrot whose line is always germane to the current conversation, you can sit back, relax, chuckle, and work your way through the clues as Anastasia helps solve yet another crime.
Seams Like the Perfect Crime is Lois Winston’s 14th Anastasia Pollack Crafting Mystery. She writes the Empty Nest Mystery series, romantic suspense, romance and chick lit, novellas and novelettes, a children’s chapter book, and nonfiction.
