Join the Kings Players for our first show of the 2025 season, Ghost of a Chance. Written by Flip Kobler and Cindy Marcus, and directed by Debra Garske, this comedy promises to entertain you and yields a surprise ending.
In this play, Bethany (played by the enchanting Annie McGrath) is a bright, strong, independent lady who is trying to build a new life and regain her confidence, after losing her husband. She has brought her fiancé, Floyd, a dentist, who is hesitant to experience adventure and excitement and can best be described as stable (played by veteran actor Mike Betcher), to the cabin in the woods where Bethany’s late husband, Chance, was killed in a hunting accident three years prior.
Floyd’s controlling mother, Verna (played by Susan Alcala), has tagged along to keep an eye on everything her son does. Floyd is tasked with helping Bethany pack up the home in the woods so she can sell it, and then they can get married. Verna is none too happy with the prospect of her son marrying Bethany, or anyone, for that matter.Chance (played by the talented Omar Pimentel) shows up at the cabin, not realizing he is dead at first, and can only be seen by Bethany. Once he finds out about her plan to sell the cabin and remarry, he has no intention of letting either happen. Bethany must keep her cool, knowing her dead husband is “in the house”, while being the only one who can see him.
Then comes on the scene a kooky psychic, Crystal, who Bethany has hired to get rid of Chance. Crystal (played by the hilarious RaeLynn Royer) is able to see Chance and tries to coax him to “move on to the next life.” This cigar-smoking, vodka drinking psychic has a secret of her own.The cast is rounded out by relative newcomer, George Stalmah, who plays Adam Lucas, a nervous accountant, hoping to buy the house from Bethany. He has a penchant for spelling words out in phone conversations and has a vested interest (or so he thinks) in purchasing this home. Ensuing vulnerabilities are exposed by several of the characters and in the end …. Well, you will just have to come and see the show!
The show opens March 1, 2025 and runs through March 23, with evening performances at 7 p.m. and matinees at 2 p.m. Please see our website or call the box office (559 584-7241) for more information on specific show times. Tickets are still only $15. We have recently spruced up our lobby, so would love for you to come see it.
