The Cat House on the Kings is very excited to have NBC Dateline coming to our facility on the 17th to film. They are filming a segment on animal rescues. We are thrilled to be included and will let you know as soon as we know when the segment will air. At the end of February we also have a film crew coming from Canada to film for four days. I have been told that there is another filming taking place in early March. As of yet, I have no details but will keep you updated. In the world of animal rescue there is no such thing as too much publicity!

Feline Exports

The Cat House on the Kings has been busy finding placements for our explosion of cats and kittens. Mirian Hasani has been very active in cat/kitten transport and in the past year she has transported over 100 animals. Be sure to read the upcoming article on Mirian in the March Cat House newsletter. The ladies in the Kitten Quarters have been working feverishly to get as many cats and kittens as possible to rescues where their chances at adoption will be substantially higher. The adoption rates in the San Joaquin Valley are low and The Cat House is always eager to find rescues that are willing to work with us.

Kitties headed to rescues in So. California

In early February, FoundAnimals.org from the Los Angeles area brought us 5 unadoptable cats and in exchange they took back 25 adoptable cats and kittens! Shortly thereafter, they took an additional 10 cats. We received an email telling us the cats arrived safely and some had already been adopted. Not only are the chances for adoption greatly increased, but this also means room will be available at the Cat House for new arrivals. There is no shortage of new arrivals. Lynea receives dozens of calls daily asking for help. Everyone can’t be helped and Lynea is often in the unenviable position of having to decide who can be saved and who must be turned away.

Low-Cost Spay & Neuters!

People are taking advantage of the Cat House on the Kings low-cost spay and neuter services grant. Thanks to the grant we received, the appointments are filling up fast. Make your appointment right away. With spays and neuters only $15, there is no time like the present to get that cat fixed, and remember, you can also get your small dog fixed for only $30! Avoid the headache of what to do with a litter of unwanted kittens or puppies. Get them fixed now! It is simple and affordable. For appointments call the Cat House at 559-638-0490 or SNIP at 559-961-7647.

Take A Tour

If you have never been to the Cat House on the Kings you can take a virtual tour. Check out the grounds and get an idea of how awesome is the Cat House on the Kings. If you happen to be there in the early morning, perhaps dropping off your cat for fixing, you will be amazed. The cats are hungry and throngs of cats will be milling about waiting for their food. It is interesting to note that it takes 6 people 2 hours to prepare the food and deliver to the various feeding stations. The kitties receive a mixture of dry food and beef or chicken canned food. To the mix is added L-Lysine, granulated garlic and brewers yeast. Click here and take the tour!

Cricket Hollow

The cat shelter Kathleen's volunteers built

Our “Cricket Hollow Lady”, Kathleen Quen, continues her mission of helping us care for the feral colony at Cricket Hollow. Even though she has physical limitations, she goes out rain or shine, 365 days a year to feed the ferals by the river. The shelter constructed by her volunteers provides the cats with much needed shelter from the elements. Kathleen feeds approximately 30-40 cats, (hard to keep an accurate count), out of her own pocket despite living on a limited income. If you want to help out with the cost of feeding these feral cats, donations can be sent to the Cat House with her name on the memo line.

Open House is May 3!

Our next Open House has been scheduled for Saturday May 3. Please mark your calendars now! We are only allowed to hold two fundraisers each year so these events are extremely important to the Cat House. We are accepting donations for our silent auction and we will need volunteers. Vendor spots are available too! Check out our upcoming newsletter for more details!

  3. I am such an admirer of the Cat House on the Kings and of Linea – she’s living the life I’ve wanted since I was a small child and had multiple imaginary multicolored cats. I told anyone who’d listen that when I grew up I wanted to have a home for homeless cats & dogs (though cats are my favorites). I hope to be able to attend The Cat House’s Open House in May – if not this year, maybe next.

    • Thanks Diane! I know Lynea appreciates that. We look forward to your eventual visit. If you don’t make the Spring Open House then perhaps the one in the fall.

  4. Garlic is toxic to cats. I’m worried that it’s being mixed into the cats’ food.

    • Thank you for your concern. The Cat House uses granulated garlic and brewers yeast to repel fleas. To my knowledge granulated garlic is not harmful to cats. According to the book “The Doctors Book of Home Remedies for Dogs and Cats” this is an acceptable method of flea repelling for cats.

  6. Thank you for this information! I wondered about this…all I could picture was “stinky” kitties! Ha! (Maybe that’s what the fleas think-he, he) Might smell like an Italian kitchen around there when making the food…mmmm. =^..^=

    • Thanks for your comments Mary. The amount of garlic is so minute that only the fleas can smell it. In large amounts garlic can be toxic to cats. In small amounts it is beneficial. Think of it like warfarin; in large amounts, rat poison. In small amounts; a beneficial blood thinner.
