Although he is mostly Yorkie, with some Chihuahua and no Cairn, Col. Potter Cairn Terrier Rescue stepped in to save this cutie when the shelter put him on the euthanasia list.

Yuki is estimated to be about ten years old but is spunky for his age. He was found in the street by a local shelter. He had been in the shelter for a number of months before being rescued and fostered by Tracey from Col. Potter. Yuki has no health problems, but he did have a number of bad teeth pulled.

Yuki

Perhaps from his time on the streets and in the shelter, Yuki exhibited some behavioral problems. After all, it is more difficult for a small dog alone on the mean streets to survive and protect himself. In the busy, noisy shelter, he would snap and snarl when feeling threatened or uncomfortable. He also came to Tracey noticeably overweight. The size of a Yorkie should be between ten to twelve pounds. Instead, he tipped the scale at almost eighteen pounds. He also does not get along with other dogs. Tracey keeps him separated from her dogs both inside and when Yuki goes out in the yard. He gets barky and starts snarling even when he sees other dogs.

Tracey feels that Yuki was once someone’s pet, but no one came forward to claim him at the shelter. She is working on his weight as well as his snapping and snarling. She has also found that he loves to be brushed, which she does regularly as he doesn’t need grooming. She has also gotten him to go willingly into his crate for his dinner and at night. She says over the months he has been with her he has made great progress.

Yuki has a number of Yorkie characteristics. He loves to cuddle and sit on his human’s lap. He is very snuggly and displays Yorkie expressions. Tracey has another Yorkie, and she says that she notices similarities with Yuki.

Yuki is housebroken but had some accidents when he first came to Tracey. However, once he adjusted, the accidents stopped. Tracey says he has not had any accidents in months. He is also far less likely to snap or snarl.

Toys are important to Yuki, and his fav is a chew toy. He likes to play fetch with a ball and happily returns the ball for another throw. He enjoys the outside and uses the doggie door. He also enjoys a walk of about fifteen to twenty minutes daily. On his walk, he will bark at other dogs but often greets people. He enjoys people visiting because he thinks everyone has come to cuddle and play with him. In fact, he thinks the world revolves around him and wants lots of attention. However, he can be left home alone, and is good at entertaining himself. Tracey only crates him at night, but otherwise allows him to be free in the house.

Yuki, unlike most terriers, has a low prey drive and while he is curious about squirrels, doesn’t really chase them. It is not known how he would be with cats. Tracey is guessing that given his dislike of other dogs, he probably would not tolerate cats or any other pets.

Yuki is looking for a forever home where he will be the king, with lots of toys and attention from his human. Yuki’s original name was Henry, like King Henry, and any adopter will have to be patient as it will take Yuki some time to adjust and learn to trust in a new home. He needs a quiet environment with no other pets and no young children.

Like all Col. Potter dogs up for adoption, Yuki has been neutered and is up to date on his vaccinations. He has made much progress with Tracey and is ready to be a cuddly lap pal for some lucky person.
