Details at the end of the post on how to enter to win a copy of the book and a link to order it from Amazon and an indie bookstore.

Bone Canyon is the second book in the Eve Ronin series written by Lee Goldberg. Eve is the youngest homicide detective in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, a position many think that she hasn’t earned since she got the job after a video of her went viral. Because of this, she isn’t very popular among some of her coworkers.

In this latest book, a catastrophic wildfire scorches the Santa Monica Mountains, exposing the remains of a woman who disappeared several years ago. The case is given to Eve and her partner Duncan Pavone, who is close to retirement. This is Eve’s first case since being injured on the job, and she keeps trying to dodge physical therapy along the way. As they investigate, they begin uncovering more secrets than they ever could have imagined–including rape, police corruption, and murder. Eve is determined to follow the clues no matter where they lead, despite discouragement from those higher up. The only people she feels she can trust are her partner and forensic anthropologist Daniel Brooks. When another skeleton is uncovered, things get even more complicated.

As if her life wasn’t complicated enough, ever since her last high profile case, she is being hounded by Hollywood agents and producers wanting to do a TV show about her. Even her mother, and mostly absent father, are putting pressure on her to do it.

Bone Canyon is filled with twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat! I never saw the ending coming! Eve is a realistic and relatable character struggling to get the job done and find justice for these women, even if it puts her own life in danger and pits her against others in the department. I enjoyed getting to see more of Eve’s quirky family in this book, and she even finds a little romance. One of my favorite things about this series is the relationship between Eve and Duncan. Duncan is kind of like that favorite uncle who always has a funny story to tell, or some good advice, and always has your back when needed.

I enjoy all of Lee’s books, but I think this series is my favorite. If you want a page-turner that is realistic and filled with great characters and a solid mystery, don’t miss Bone Canyon. And if you haven’t read the first book, Lost Hills, be sure to go check that one out first. While the mystery in Bone Canyon stands on its own, you miss a lot about the characters if you don’t read the first book.
