Details at the end of this post on how to enter to win a copy of Iced Under. We also have a link to order it from Amazon, and from an indie publisher where a portion goes to help support KRL.

February is when Maine’s Busman’s Harbor closes up for the winter, with snowbirds fleeing and many residents departing for warmer climates. Even Julia Snowden’s winter restaurant has closed up for the season, as her boyfriend Chris takes advantage of an opportunity to help friends sail to Key West. This slow period allows Julia to spend a little more time with her mother, resulting in a routine errand to pick up mail opening up a maelstrom of family secrets, scandals, and indiscretions.

bookJulia couldn’t understand why the mysterious package sent to Jacqueline Morrow Snowden contained a diamond necklace or that it could be worth millions of dollars. It turns out that the Black Widow necklace was an heirloom from Jaqueline’s family last seen in the 1920s, with its loss blamed on a maid who also vanished from their Windsholme mansion. Julia’s mother never spoke much of her family’s past, as it became tied to her cousin Hugh’s disappearance from Morrow Island in 1978. Researching the necklace’s past leads Julia to also delve into the Morrow family, whose wealth from the ice business led to frictions between brothers and resentful Mainers. It also has Julia discovering far more than she ever expected to know about her mother’s relatives, secrets that she isn’t sure Jaqueline is prepared to accept.

This is a story of secrets, and to reveal much more would lessen the impact upon Julia and her family. Taking Julia to Boston and out of her beloved coastal Maine home and away from the family’s Snowden Family Clambake business allows readers to see a new side of her. Julia continues to be an eminently likable and loving character, one who strives to protect all of her family members. Seeing her attempt to shield her mother only makes her more admirable, as is her cleverness and dedication to solving the mysteries. The past and present collide in ways that are just as heart wrenching as they are heartwarming, and the genuine emotions they stir will satisfy fans of these exceptional novels.

  2. Being a life-long New Englander, I love all of the cozy mysteries written about the Northeast. I have a lot of ties to Maine as well as other states, so attempt to read each series about Maine, and those written about Massachusetts where we have lived for all of our married life. So When Barbara’s series began, I was right there getting the first book. I have loved this series so much but had to cut back a little as I was getting overwhelmed with so many books that I was ordering and not able to read due to health reasons, and cataracts slowed me down a bit too. I have great new glasses until I can get my eye surgery so if I were to win a copy of Iced Under it would not be sitting on my end table very long, trust me. I see that my email address is listed above with my name so I won’t leave it here again as I don’t like to give this out to all that read blogs and postings. Thank you for giving me added incentive to get Iced Under read one way or another very soon. I love your postings very much. Keep up the great work. Sincerely,
    Cynthia
