Hola and happy new year to everyone! Just a quick shout out to all of our staff, adopters, fosters, donors, volunteers, and everyone that helped us round out a wonderful year.
As the world opened up again after the onset of the Covid pandemic, the dogs continue to serve as a reminder of all that’s good in the world. They continue to benefit our mental health and are here for us and help with depression and anxiety during our stress prone situations. We have found some great homes for dogs in the past two Covid related years, yet one gal remains with us that would surely love to call this her year.
River
The people that we’re supposed to love and care for her did what most decent people would consider cruel and unforgivable, so it was no wonder she was weary of strangers. Heartbreaking to know that, after being driven out into the dark and coyote-filled countryside, she was unceremoniously abandoned. A fate many dogs succumb to all too often in Fresno County outskirts. She was skin and bones and had clearly given birth to a litter of puppies which were nowhere in sight.
Needless to say, FBR staff are resourceful and do not give up! If River wasn’t going to come to humans, it was time to try another method. Staff ran to the shelter and grabbed another FBR doggy resident at the time, Clifford. One look at Clifford and River ran up the ravine and was ready to play with her new friend. When she was leashed up, she instantly took to it and she showed us she even knew sit and shake!
River has been at our shelter since, and we’ve learned many things about her nature and her silly personality. The cutest thing is that she loves toys, they are her favorite, and she happily tosses, tugs and chews any toy that you give her to play with. She has a typical seven-year-old energy, and would be best as an only dog, but would do OK with a like-size male. River is ready to live a happy life, when she is finally in a loving environment, with a family that understands her personality. In return she will teach a family how to hold her while she demands tummy rubs! River’s family will also get unconditional love, endless tail wags and cuddles.

I do hope this sweet doggy finds a home soon! Thank Kevin you are able to provide her with love and safety in the meantime. We have two aged cats, so I don’t think that would work out very well for us.
