MONSTERS WEEKLY — Fresno Monsters Hockey

WEEKEND RECAP

The Monsters hosted the Kenai River Brown Bears in a 3 game set this past weekend. Fresno, coming off a successful weekend against Fairbanks where they won 2 of 3 games, was hoping to play with the same effort and duplicate their success.

On Friday the Monsters played catch up all night matching goals throughout the game. Heading into the 3rd period Fresno found themselves trailing 4-3. The Monsters dominated the play in the 3rd and with only: 27 seconds left in the game Mitchell Snyder scored his second goal of the game to force overtime where Fresno would come up short. Final score was 5-4 in favor of Kenai.

Saturday night saw Kenai jumped out to an early 1-0 lead before Fresno took over and got goals from Sean Kalbak, Newton Fuller, and Mitchell Snyder to take a 3-1 lead and went on to win by a final score of 3-2. Fuller was named the game’s first star posting a goal and an assist for 2 points. Goaltender Tomas Sholl made 31 saves for Fresno in the win.

Gateway Ice Center was the site for Sunday’s game and once again Fresno saw Kenai jump out to an early 1-0 lead. From there Fresno goalie Mac Haight took over stopping 34 of the 35 shots he faced. The Monsters got three third period goals from Jacob McDowell, Matt Salituro, and Trevor Husch to win the game by a final score of 3-1. Fresno went 2-0-1 over the weekend and is 4-1-1 over their last 6 games.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Next up for the Monsters is the Wenatchee Wild at Selland Arena. Friday night is Faith and Family night and Concordia Lutheran Church of Kingsburg will be holding a shoe recycling drive. Also live music will be provided by the North Park Community Church band. All fans are encouraged to bring any old shoes that they would like to donate to the cause.

Saturday night the Monsters will be hosting their first ever Hispanic Heritage night. $2 Bud Lights and $2 Tacos will be available thanks to Donaghy Sales, Guadalajara, and Pardini’s. The band Nite Flite will be filling the concourse with the sound of music on Saturday night as well.
