MONSTERS WEEKLY — Fresno Monsters Hockey
WEEKEND RECAP
The Fresno Monsters hosted the Fairbanks Ice Dogs last weekend. Friday night and Saturday night Selland Arena was the location of the games and in a rare three game set Gateway Ice Center was the site for game three.
On Friday, the Monsters took control early and went on to post a 4-2 win. Gordon Wells was the games first star recording 1 goal and 1 assists. Fresno’s Daniel Rosse and Andrew Herlofsky were named the games 2nd and 3rd star.
Saturday night’s game was a close game from start to finish. In the end, Fresno lost 5-4 in front of 4,280 fans. Matt Salituro was named the games 3rd star and continued his scoring streak. Matt has scored 10 points in nine games since joining the Monsters in late November.
Gateway Ice Center saw an unbelievable game on Sunday evening. The Monsters and Ice Dogs played a scoreless 1st period before Fairbanks jumped out to a 2-0 lead after 2 periods of play. Fresno took over from there! The Monsters got two third period goals from Mitchell Snyder to send the game to overtime. After a scoreless sudden death overtime period, the game moved to a five man shootout. Gordon Wells got things started on the right track for the Monsters scoring in the first round of the shootout. In round two, Matt Salituro made it back to back goals for Fresno and Monsters goalie Tomas Sholl stopped all 4 Ice Dogs shooters to secure Fresno’s 3-2 win!
