It’s amazing to see how far Abigail Cooper has come since her first appearance in 2004’s Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye. Fourteen books ago Abby had a small psychic reading practice and was a self-declared P.I., as in Psychic Intuitive. Since then Abby has become a true professional private investigator in Austin, partnered in a practice with her best friend Candice Fusco and taking on clients that include the FBI.

Professional psychic Abby Cooper has come a long way in proving her value to local enforcement. In fact, she is now an official consultant to the Austin’s Cold Case Division within the FBI, working alongside her husband and her best friend’s husband. Unfortunately, this has also led to Abby becoming a political pawn within the bureau, with her boss’s, her husband’s, and the Cold Case agents’ jobs all on the line.

Time for BBQs, sunscreen, and reading on the beach. Why not start a new series and take a mental vacation back in time and to foreign shores with these titles.

Abby Cooper-Rivers (should she decide to take hubby’s name) has got her work cut out for her. Some of it’s her own fault; even she admits that. Probably she shouldn’t have outed a federal court judge as gay-in open court, no less—just because he said she was a fraud and not really psychic. That got her a contempt-of-court arrest and a night in jail. Due to overcrowding, she’s locked up with a woman who’s been on death row for the last ten years. Skylar Miller was accused and convicted of killing her nine-year-old son. This is her last appeal—and in Texas, if you lose that, the death penalty is in play within hours.

Ever since the death of her mother, the relationship between M.J. Holliday and her father has, to put it mildly, been strained. Although M.J. is initially shocked to hear the news that her father is engaged, she agrees to drive back home to Valdosta, Georgia to meet his new fiancée, the wealthy Christine Bigelow. Upon arriving with her friend Gilley Gillespie and her boyfriend Heath Whitecastle, M.J. has the unexpected but welcome discovery that Montgomery Holliday has reverted back to being the loving father she remembers before her mother died of cancer.

Abby and Dutch have been planning the new house, new focus on jobs and their marriage for a while now. It got derailed when the venue burned down and although Abby and Dutch were both tempted to elope, Abby’s sister Cat has invested so much time and money in the wedding, they feel they just can’t. Now Cat’s gone all out and found a new venue. She’s also gone round the bend in details. She’s invited everyone on Abby’s cell contact list. Nice for us to see old characters again, but Abby’s a little overwhelmed.

A visit from an ex-boyfriend is always disturbing, but when psychic medium MJ Holliday discovers Steven Sable on her doorstep, flustered does not come close to describing her condition. Not only does handsome Dr. Sable bring the news that he is engaged to a neurosurgeon, but he also asks for M.J.’s help with his fiancée’s possibly possessed brother. Poor Luke Decker has been feeling shadowed by a menacing presence whenever he’s alone, and its poltergeist antics have him unable to sleep and questioning his sanity.

M.J. Holliday and her reality television crew from Ghoul Getters return to England to shoot another episode after their last session in Dunkirk proved to be a bust. Although completely exhausted, the pressure to produce a successful show is on and M.J. has expectations that their shoot in the haunted Kidwellah Castle in the Northern Wales town of Penbigh will be full of ghostly appearances. What doesn’t help M.J. are the histrionic antics of her best friend and technical advisor Gilley that get them all delayed at airport security and nearly sent back to her condo in Boston.
